    • A seal assembly for a vapor generator each wall of which has spaced lower and an upper portions to accommodate relative movement there between. The seal assembly includes a trough containing water and connected to one of the portions of each wall. A dip skirt extends into the trough and divides same into an inner chamber and outer chamber, and a partition extends from the dip skirt, across the space between the wall portions, and to the other wall portion to expose the water in the inner chamber to the boiler pressure and the water in the outer chamber to atmosphere. As a result, relative movement between the wall portions is accommodated by corresponding movement of the dip skirt in the water trough while maintaining an airtight seal.

    • A gasket for joining separate panels in an edge-to-edge relation with a level surface between the panels. This device may be used for mounting a fixed glass panel such as a windshield in an opening provided in a sheet metal panel. The device comprises a U-shaped channel member for securing to the glass panel, and a contiguous sealing member which is attached to the channel member and mounts the glass in a vehicle bay. The gasket forms a contour, level with the outside surface of the sheet of glass and the car body, thereby minimizing undesirable aerodynamic effects. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the laminated glass panel has an inner ply that extends beyond the periphery of the outer ply to form a stepped edge. The sides of the channel are shaped so that the outer side forms the same contour as the outside surface of the sheet of glass while the outer surface of the other side complements the surface of a flange in the vehicle bay in which it is mounted. The sealing member advantageously includes a rounded protruding member which engages and securely holds a portion of a rabbet in the bay and further has a hollow channel in its mid-portion which extends the length of the sealing member. This channel is deformed during the mounting of the glass panel and is filled with hardening material after the device is in place for further increasing the tightness of the seal between the glass panel and the rabbet.

    • A method for production of lined gaskets or gasket inserts with which a pasty substance is arranged between the sealing surfaces (or correspondingly developed forms) and separated from these by two external layers, and hardened between the form-producing sealing surfaces. The pasty substance preferably contains a filler of quartz powder whose void fraction is filled with a 2-component artificial resin. The pasty substance can be applied with the assistance of a spray gun. A preferred form of construction of such a gasket contains a hardened material layer and a corrugated ring adjoining it, which, along an inner peripheral area are surrounded by a band-shaped shell and are arranged between two gasket insert rings, which for their part are surrounded by a customary shell of polytetrafluoroethylene or such-like. The production of gaskets of this type can take place at the point of use with the aid of simple means, so that costly operational interruptions can be shortened without expensive fitting operations or a re-ordering from a manufacturer being necessary.

    • An improved packing member for sealing a joint in a pipeline, comprising a substantially cylindrical inner peripheral portion adapted to closely contact the outer surface of one pipe to be connected with another pipe in a pipe joint member, a substantially cylindrical outer peripheral portion adapted to closely contact the inner surface of the pipe joint member and a generally annular intermediate portion connecting the inner and outer peripheral portions integrally with each other. A substantial free space is provided within the pipe joint member inwardly of the packing member and encircling the inner end of the one pipe to permit longitudinal displacement of the pipe and angular displacement thereof relative to the other pipe by cooperating with the outwardly diverging clearance of the packing member and the end clearance of the pipe joint member. The packing member is generally made of highly flexible and elastic material.
