    • A housing for splicing a trunk cable to a plurality of tip cables has a detachable end cap for receiving the tip cables. The detachable end cap is constructed from a pair of attached molded sections having flat spaced parallel surfaces between which is positioned a rubber sealing member. A plurality of holes extend through the two sections and the sealing member for receiving the tip cables. The first section includes a plurality of integrally molded conically shaped knock-out members positioned in the holes of the first section and projecting through aligned holes in the sealing member and the second section. The knock-out members form a plug that substantially fills the associated holes of the sealing member. The knock-out members are removed from selected holes at the time of installation for receiving the tip cables into the housing.

    • A cable connection unit comprises a pile of insulating plates carrying preformed conducting strips. A first end of each strip is connected to or forms a lead-in or lead-out terminal, and a second end is bent in an orifice traversing the pile. Plug modules plugged in one face of the pile have lead-in and lead-out pins contacting the bent second ends of the strips and a grounding pin contacting a grounding grid placed on the opposite face of the pile. The modules have fuses connecting their lead-in and lead-out pins and lightning protectors between these pins and the grounding pins. When a module is not plugged in, the bent second end of the corresponding lead-in terminal comes to contact the grounding grid.

    • Loading coils for communications cables are preloaded into magazines and prewired to terminal strips carried on the magazines. A magazine comprises a length of material, typically extruded or molded plastic material, of a channel shaped cross-section to accommodate the coils flat and side-by-side. End caps fit on each end of the magazine to retain the coils in position and also serve as mounting means in a casing. The terminal strips are mounted on an extension of one wall of the channel shaped cross-section. The preassembled magazines are then assembled in the casing a higher packing density is obtained, and the prewiring of the coils to the terminal strips provides effective orientation of the coils relative to each other to give good electrical and electronic separation and reduced cross-talk.

    • Connector apparatus for telephone and other multi-circuit data transmission systems, including a single-instrument fixed connector station comprising a molded plastic base affording a polarized receptacle encompassing a first terminal block having multiple bifurcated front-engaging quick-connection contacts; a latching cover is hinged to the base and strain relief means are provided for mounting the end of a multi-conductor cable adjacent the receptacle. The connector apparatus further comprises an instrument cable connector including a second terminal block matching the receptacle configuration and having multiple female contacts; the cable connector is provided with strain relief means for mounting the end of a multi-conductor cable. The cable connector mounts directly on the fixed station base, its female contacts receiving the outer ends of the quick-connection contacts to interconnect the two cables, and is held in place by the cover. A multi-instrument fixed station may be included in the connector apparatus; this station employs quick connection contacts like those of the single-instrument station to permit mounting the instrument cable connector directly on the multiinstrument fixed station.

    • A buried-type ready access splice closure comprises a dielectric base with a central opening for receiving the opposite runs of a loop of cable. The base contains clamping means for clamping the runs of the cable and for grounding the shield of the cable outside of the base. The loop of cable has its coverings stripped away to expose the insulated core wires for splicing to service wires. The loop is supported by a bracket that is attached to the base and to the clamping means, and the loop and bracket are enclosed by a cover that is removably clamped to the base. Additional openings are provided in the base for receiving the service wires which may be sealed to the base by a nut and bushing arrangement. The cable runs are sealed by potting compound in the central opening.
