    • Waste disposal device including a housing defining a waste compartment for receiving enclosed waste and arranged to removably receive a cartridge containing a length of flexible tubing which operatively receives waste therein, a retention mechanism for holding a quantity of waste received in the tubing and a rotation mechanism for rotating the retention mechanism when the quantity of waste is held thereby and while the cartridge is stationary in order to twist the tubing and enclose the held quantity of waste. The compartment in the housing receives the enclosed waste. The waste is thus rotated while the cartridge is held against rotation thereby enabling the formation of the twist above the waste to enclose or encapsulate the waste. A pushing mechanism may be provided on a cover of the device to push the waste into engagement with the retention mechanism.

    • The present invention relates to a transdermal delivery device disposal system for disposing of a transdermal delivery device containing at least one pharmaceutically active component. The disposal system contains at least one sheet or substrate on which an adhesive is coated; and one or more of the following components: (a) monomer, and optionally comonomer(s), to be polymerized; (b) an initiator, and optionally co-initiator(s), to initiate the polymerization; (c) at least one crosslinking agent to crosslink the (co)polymer; and (d) at least one deactivating agent to chemically alter, to degrade, and/or to deactivate the active component(s) contained in the transdermal delivery device, such as an opioid antagonist or an opioid agonist deactivating agent so that the euphoric effects of the active component(s) contained in the transdermal delivery device are at least temporarily inhibited, diminished, or halted in vivo, wherein at least one adhesive-coated sheet or substrate adheres to, immobilizes, or isolates, and prevents, inhibits, or diminishes the misuse or abuse of the active component contained in, at least one transdermal delivery device.

    • A method and system for treating material, especially medical waste, municipal solid waste and paper, such as newsprint. The system includes an input component having an air lock and shredder; a pressurized treatment component which includes a feed screw which feeds material into an extrusion tube that is connected to a rotating autoclave vessel, a pressurized outlet hopper, and an exit feed screw which feeds sterilized material into an outlet extrusion tube. The system also includes a drying and cooling component which receives material from the outlet extrusion tube, tumbles the material in a drum to break it up, cool it and release moisture, and an evacuation blower which conveys moist air in the drum through a condenser. In a preferred embodiment, the autoclave vessel is sealed at its inlet and outlet ends in part by dynamic plugs of material which progress through the inlet and outlet extrusion tubes, but at the same time form compacted, airtight barriers which seal the autoclave vessel.

    • A medical waste disposal system for loading, reducing, and sterilizing medical waste is disclosed. The system includes a frame supporting a generally sealed containment chamber, a lift assembly having a lifter mounted on a track assembly configured for generally vertical motion of the lifter. The system also includes a hopper mounted on the frame near the lift and in communication with a material feeder, a first grinder in communication with the material feeder, a first conveyor positioned to receive medical waste from the first grinder, and a second grinder in communication with the first conveyor. The system further includes a second conveyor positioned to receive waste from the second grinder, and an autoclave for thermally disinfecting the waste, mounted on the frame in the containment chamber and in communication with the second conveyor assembly. The autoclave includes a plurality of steam inlets, a waste inlet opening, and a waste outlet opening for discharging waste to a third conveyor assembly. The third conveyor assembly is positioned to receive waste from the autoclave and to convey the waste to a disposal container. The system further includes a steam generation plant mounted on the frame in the containment chamber and in communication with the steam inlets of the autoclave.

    • Infectious wastes originating in hospitals or other locations are deposited into a sealable, pressure resistant, portable sterilizer vessel at the source of the wastes. The sterilizer vessel rides on wheels enabling travel of the filled vessel to a sterilization station at another location where steam is directed into the vessel to perform the sterilization. Operators need not transfer unprocessed infectious waste from a collection cart to a fixed sterilization vessel at the sterilization site. In the preferred form, handler exposure to unprocessed wastes is further reduced by creating an airflow from the vessel opening to a filter while the vessel is opened for deposit of wastes.
