    • A laminography system includes a first linear guide defining a z-direction of a Cartesian coordinate system and an imaging radiation source fixable to the first linear guide and movable along the first linear guide. The radiation source is configured to form a cone of rays including a central ray defining a y-axis of the Cartesian coordinate system. A detector is disposed in a position so as to be struck at a center thereof by the central ray of the radiation source substantially in an x-direction of the Cartesian coordinate system. The system also includes a first rotation device configured to rotate the detector about a first axis of rotation that is parallel to a z-axis of the Cartesian coordinate system and that passes through an intersection of the central array and the detector. The detector is fixable to a second linear guide and is movable on the second linear guide along the first axis of rotation. An object slide is disposed between the radiation source and the detector. The object slide is configured to receive an object for inspection and is rotatable by a second rotation device about a second axis of rotation that is parallel to the first axis of rotation and that passes through an intersection of the central ray and the object for inspection.

    • An apparatus and method of examining the breast of a woman who has difficulty in standing or raising her arms by providing an X-ray machine having x-ray emitting and receiving members that are rotatable about a vertical axis and movable up and down along the vertical axis. A cup member having an interior configured to receive one of the woman's breast is placed over a breast and suction from a source of suction is applied to the interior of the cup member to expand the breast to fill the cup. The X-ray emitting and receiving members of the X-ray machine are then oriented relative to the cup member to perform an examination of the breast inside the cup member while the woman is either in a sitting or standing position.

    • A gamma ray generator includes an ion source in a first chamber. A second chamber is configured co-axially around the first chamber at a lower second pressure. Co-axially arranged plasma apertures separate the two chambers and provide for restricted passage of ions and gas from the first to the second chamber. The second chamber is formed by a puller electrode having at least one long channel aperture to draw ions from the first chamber when the puller electrode is subject to an appropriate applied potential. A plurality of electrodes rings in the third chamber in third pressure co-axially surround the puller electrode and have at least one channel corresponding to the at least one puller electrode aperture and plasma aperture. The electrode rings increase the energy of the ions to a selected energy in stages in passing between successive pairs of the electrodes by application of an accelerating voltage to the successive pairs of accelerator electrodes. A target disposed co-axially around the plurality of electrodes receives the beam of accelerated ions, producing gamma rays.

The x-ray apparatus includes a patient support supported on a support unit in such a manner that it can be repositioned by way of a support arm and an x-ray detector likewise supported on the support arm, embodied in particular as a solid-state detector. The x-ray detector can be moved perpendicular to the patient support by way of a retaining column of a repositioning mechanism and can be rotated relative to the patient support about a first longitudinal axis extending in a longitudinal direction of the patient support. To increase the flexibility of the x-ray apparatus, the x-ray detector is supported in such a manner that it can be rotated relative to the patient support about a transverse axis extending in a transverse direction of the patient support.
