    • A fastener for releasably securing first and second panels together includes a pin for being secured in an opening of a first panel, and a grommet for being secured in an opening of the second panel and for releasably receiving a shank of the pin to thereby releasably secure the first and second panels together. The pin includes a shank having a plurality of spaced apart circumferential grooves thereon, and a pair of spaced apart flanges connected to an end of the shank for securing the pin in the opening of the first panel. The grommet includes a tubular body defining a passageway for receiving the shank and has at least one longitudinal slot opening outwardly to an end thereof to define a radially pliant portion of the tubular body. A flange may be connected to the tubular body adjacent an end thereof opposite the longitudinal slot and cooperates with a plurality of tabs connected to the tubular body to secure the grommet within the opening of the second panel. At least one inwardly extending projection is provided on an interior surface of the radially pliant portion of the tubular body for engaging one of the grooves of the shank for releasably securing the pin and grommet together.

    • The present invention relates to an arrangement for attaching a plastic panel to an automotive body metal substructure enabling controlled distortion free thermal expansion and contraction of the plastic panel relative to a metal substructure. The attaching arrangement comprises a plastic adjustable mounting block sized for initial insertion in an associated wide slot portion of a keyhole-shaped expansion and contraction slot. The block has a central abutment portion depending from an upper plate portion including lateral extending wings providing with the plate opposed grooves adapted to slidably engage a narrow trailing slot portion of the keyhole-shaped slot upon the blocks subsequent longitudinal rearward movement. The block has a vertically disposed longitudinally extending integral locating frangible finger extending longitudinally from the abutment portion adapted to engage the rearward transverse edge of the narrow slot portion allowing the precisely located block to be readily affixed by a fastener to the plastic panel. Upon the panel undergoing shrinkage the narrow slot portion transverse edge crushes the locating finger enabling the plastic panel and its associated blocks to slide fore and aft relative to the substructure to accommodate thermal movement of the panel.

    • The invention concerns quick release fastenening means particularly for coupling furniture parts. In a preferred form fastening means (20) for releasably securing together first and second parts (14,15) comprise a first substantially planar member (30) defining a slot (22) having a relatively wide portion and a relatively narrow portion and defining an aperture (23) having an effective centre spaced from the effective centre of the wide portion by a predetermined distance, a second member comprising a stud (25) having a head (32) and a body (31), the head being dimensioned to pass through said wide portion but not through the narrow portion of the aperture (22) and the body being dimensioned to be movable from the wide portion along the narrow portion, and a peg (24) dimensioned to be received in the aperture, the effective centre of the stud being spaced from the effective centre of the peg by said distance, a strip (26) of springy material on which the peg is mounted and effectively connected to the stud, whereby the peg (24) can move away from the plane of the first member. The arrangement is such that when the head (32) is inserted through the wide portion of the slot, the peg (24) is displaced rearwardly by contact with the first member (30) so as to bend the strip, and when the stud is displaced transversely through said distance with the body traversing the narrow portion of the slot (22) the peg will enter the aperture under the bias of the strip to prevent reverse transverse movement until the peg is depressed.

    • A fastener arrangement is provided for the clamping together of two objects, such as the adjacent sidewalls of enclosures or the like. The fastener arrangement is used with predetermined aligned openings in the objects to be fastened and is installable from either side of the objects. The fastener arrangement includes a first member insertable through the predetermined aligned openings from either side of the two objects. The first member includes two spaced-apart, facing clamping surfaces. Upon insertion of the first member into the installed position, each of the clamping surfaces engages one of the respective sidewalls. After insertion of the first member, the desired clamping force is applied. In a specific embodiment, the first member carries a threaded stud that extends from the side from which it is installed. A nut is assembled onto the stud to apply the clamping force. The dimensions of the predetermined aligned openings and the fastening arrangement are related so that the first member is easily insertable into the opening, but cannot fall through to the other side. Further, the first member does not need to be held in any way and is both self-supporting and self-aligning during installation and clamping. Thus, assembly merely involves the placing of the first member through the aligned opening, whereupon it is self-guiding into the assembled position, and thereafter applying the clamping force. The arrangement is also easily removable and reusable. Additionally, the first member closes off the opening between the two sides. In a specific embodiment, the predetermined opening is generally T-shaped.

    • A one-piece molded retainer clip is mountable onto any desired surface. The retainer clip includes a back wall for mounting to the surface and a raised front wall having a mounting button access slot formed therein. A clip finger having a resilient end portion extends from the back wall into the access slot to bear against the mounting button when inserted therein. The access slot has a pair of guide walls and overlying wall portions to engage and retain a flange of the mounting button. The clip finger preferably is biased against the mounting button and can include a projection for engagement with the mounting button or an electrical ground or a resilient biasing member.
