    • Aspects of a method and system for a delta quantizer for MIMO pre-coders with finite rate channel state information feedback may comprise quantizing a change in channel state information in a MIMO pre-coding system onto at least a first and a second codebook, each of which comprises one or more unitary matrices, using a cost function; and generating the at least first and second codebook based on at least the channel state information. The channel state information may be a matrix V and the cost function may be defined by the following relationship: f  ( A ) = ( 1 N  ∑ j = 1 N   a jj  2 ) where A is a matrix of size N by N and aij is element (i,j) of matrix A. One or more unitary matrices may be generated for the at least first codebook from at least a first set of matrices and a second set of matrices.

        • An optically-pumped (OP) multiple quantum well (MQW) active region is disposed in an optical cavity of an OP VCSEL, which generates laser light at a lasing wavelength. The OP VCSEL receives pump light at a first end of the optical cavity. A plurality of quantum well (QW) groups are equally spaced within the active region to correspond in position with antinodes of a standing wave of the lasing wavelength in the optical cavity. The QW groups include a first QW group that is closest to the first end of the optical cavity, and a last QW group that is farthest from the first end of the optical cavity. A plurality of equally thick intermediate absorbing layers are disposed between adjacent QW groups. A last absorbing layer is disposed adjacent to the side of the last QW group farthest away from the first end of the optical cavity. A first absorbing layer is disposed adjacent to the side of the first QW group closest to the first end of the optical cavity. The first absorbing layer has a thickness at least two times smaller than that of the intermediate absorbing layers, thereby leading to improved pump power distribution uniformity across QW groups of the active region.

        • A letter opener (100). Letter opener (100) comprises a main body (102) having an open side, a covering piece (104) for closing up the open side of main body (102), a cutting blade (106), made of a ceramic material, rotatably installed inside main body (102), a spring member (108) installed inside main body (102) for maintaining blade (106) in position and for countering the rotation motion of blade (106) when blade (106) is in cutting mode. On the upper portion of main body (102), there is provided a lip piece (110) having a lower straight surface extending laterally. A through guide groove (112) is formed in between lip (110) and the upper surface of covering piece (104). Blade (106) extends upward across substantially groove (112) at a substantially right angle. When letter opener (100) is sliding along a marginal edge of a letter, cutting blade (106) operates to pierce through one layer of the letter and to cut a cutting line thereon, which is generally parallel to and offset by a slight spacing from the edge of the letter. Letter opener (100) is convenient and safe to use and is of durable construction.
