    • The present invention provides a method for modifying melamine derivatives that can produce N-substituted melamine derivatives by introducing a substituent group to melamine or N-substituted melamine derivatives. The method is characterized by heating melamine or an N-substituted melamine derivative and an alcohol in the presence of a mixed catalyst comprising a hydrogenation catalyst and a dehydrogenation catalyst and hydrogen to allow reaction or heating melamine or an N-substituted melamine derivative and an alcohol in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and hydrogen with addition/coexistence of a metal to allow reaction. The compound groups obtained by introducing a substituent group to the amino group of melamine derivative with an alcohol by the method of the present invention can be used widely as intermediates of fine chemicals such as various agricultural chemicals, medicines, dyes, paints, etc. and as various resin materials and flame retardant materials.

The various modified sustituted 1,3,5-triazine derivatives thus produced are generally obtained as a mixture. These derivatives can be isolated as compounds having high-purity by a normal separation method for organic compounds, and the compounds are usable in the various applications mentioned in the specification.

    • An information processing apparatus using a neural network learning function has, in one embodiment, a computer system and a pattern recognition apparatus associated with each other via a communication cable. The computer system includes a learning section having a first neural network and serves to adjust the weights of connection therein as a result of learning with a learning data signal supplied thereto from the pattern recognition apparatus via the communication cable. The pattern recognition apparatus includes an associative output section having a second neural network and receives data on the adjusted weights from the learning section via the communication cable to reconstruct the second neural network with the data on the adjusted weights. The pattern recognition apparatus with the associative output section having the reconstructed second neural network performs pattern recognition independently of the computer system with the communication cable being brought into an electrical isolation mode.
