A low pressure circuit is connected between the lockup clutch control valve and a continuously variable transmission. A low relief valve is provided in the low pressure circuit for lubricating a transmission belt so as to improve cooling efficiency.

An antilock brake system is provided on the vehicle. A memory is provided for storing a plurality of ABS desired transmission ratios for use during operation of the antilock brake system. During the operation of the antilock brake system, an ABS desired transmission ratio is derived from the memory. The transmission ratio is controlled with the ABS desired transmission ratio.
