    • The invention relates to a filling nozzle for dispensing a liquid into a tank of a motor vehicle, having a main valve (5). It is provided according to the invention that a safety valve (7) is arranged downstream of the main valve (5), which safety valve can be moved from a closed position into an open position by means of an opening movement directed in an upstream direction, and that a safety device (11) is provided which has an operative connection to the safety valve (7) and which is designed to detect the insertion of the filling nozzle into a tank provided for the corresponding liquid and which effects a movement of the safety valve from the closed position into the open position when an insertion of the filling nozzle into a tank provided for the corresponding liquid is detected.

    • A vacuum-assist fuel dispensing nozzle has a body defining a fuel supply passage and a vapor return passage each having a control valve operated simultaneously by a hand actuated lever pivotally connected to an axially movable tubular member retained by a diaphragm actuated clutch. A fuel dispensing spout extends from the body and a fuel responsive poppet valve, and the spout encloses an air bleed passage which actuates the clutch. The housing supports a vapor flow responsive valve within the vapor passage and includes a ferrous valve member or disc movable within retainers between a closed position contacting an annular seat to block the flow of vapor and an open position permitting a free flow of vapor through the vapor passage. A circular magnet is supported by the retainers and magnetically attracts the valve disc to the closed position in response to no flow of vapor through the vapor passage.

The nozzle body includes a vapor path configured such that vapor recovered from the vehicle tank during refueling is passable therethrough. The main vapor valve is movable to a position wherein the main vapor valve does not block the vapor path. The nozzle system further includes a relief valve in fluid communication with the vapor path. The relief valve is configured to open to allow ambient air to enter into the vapor path when sufficiently low pressure is present in the vapor path, and the relief valve is generally aligned with the main vapor valve.

    • A vacuum assisted, vapor recovery fuel nozzle comprising a nozzle body and a spout mounted thereon. The spout comprises an inner tube and an outer tube. The inner tube and passage means in the body provide a fuel passage. The inner and outer tubes define a vapor return passage in the spout. The inner end of the outer tube is provided with a radial flange, which is clamped, by a breakaway nut, on the nozzle body to mount the spout thereon. The nozzle is provided with an automatic shut off mechanism, which includes a venturi valve for generating a negative pressure. In the absence of an overfill condition, this negative pressure is vented to atmosphere through a vent tube disposed in the vapor return passage. A normally closed vapor return valve, mounted on the nozzle body, is opened in response to the nozzle's flow control valve, so that vapors will be drawn into the entrance of the vapor return passage at the outer end of the spout. The spout is formed by telescoping the inner tube into a ferrule and the ferrule into the outer tube to provide a reenforced outer end for the spout. The nozzle body is compositely formed by a body member, a vapor cap and housing means for a main valve trip mechanism. The coaxial hose is attached to the hand grip of the nozzle at a downward angle. An optional, vestigial shroud is provided to prevent escape of vapors during delivery of fuel.

    • A vapor recovery nozzle has a dual passage hose connector, a fluid control body connected to the connector, a fluid turbine body connected to the fluid control body, and a fluid venturi body mounted within the fluid turbine body, a barrier flange and a vapor impeller housing surrounding a fluid and vapor conduit spout and connected to the barrier flange and fluid turbine body. A fluid turbine and a vapor impeller are mounted on opposite sides of the barrier flange on bearings which are supported on an axle extended from the venturi body. Magnetic couplings drive the vapor impeller with the fluid turbine. Fluid vapor is actively withdrawn from the tank and is moved under a positive discharge pressure through the vapor channel and in the nozzle guard, past a check valve in the vapor channel and through the vapor passage in the hose. Fluid is controlled by a poppet valve which is closed in the direction of fluid flow by a spring. An inner plunger opens a valve when the inner plunger is connected to an outer plunger by needle rollers. The outer plunger is moved by a cam connected to the fluid lever. Fluid flows inward through tangential openings in a turbine chamber, and then flows through a venturi and check valve. A radial opening near the check valve produces a reduced pressure, which is raised by vapor drawn through a sensor opening near a distal end of the nozzle. The opening is closed by liquid.
