    • The present invention is to provide a β-1,4-mannobiose-containing composition which can inhibit colonization of salmonella in animal body and effectively excrete salmonella outside the body and the method for producing thereof, a feed additive containing the β-1,4-mannobiose-containing composition, and a feed blended with the β-1,4-mannobiose-containing composition. The present invention is intended to provide a method for producing the β-1,4-mannobiose-containing composition wherein a mannan degrading enzyme is functioned to a mannan-containing natural material for producing at least 10% by weight of β-1,4-mannobiose based on the mannan before the degradation, the β-1,4-mannobiose-containing composition prepared through the function of a mannan degrading enzyme to a mannan-containing natural material, which contains at least 10% by weight of β-1,4-mannobiose in terms of dry matter, a feed additive containing the β-1,4-mannobiose-containing composition, and a feed blended with the β-1,4-mannobiose-containing composition.

    • Suggested is a method for improving the yield during the production of crystalline alpha lactose, wherein (a) an aqueous lactose solution is adjusted to a temperature of between about 62 and 67° C., (b) the solution is cooled down to between about 20 and 30° C., (c) the solution is held at this temperature for 0 to 5 h, (d) subsequently, the solution is re-heated to between about 30 and 35° C., (e) the solution is held at this temperature for 0 to 5 h, (f) then the solution is cooled down to about 10° C. and (g) subsequently, the precipitated alpha lactose crystals are separated from the second mother liquor, (h) an amount of a carbohydrate compound is added to the second mother liquor such that the solubility product of the residual amount of lactose that is still soluble is exceeded, (i) the second amount of precipitated alpha lactose crystals is separated from the mother liquor, dried, and (j) both amounts of alpha lactose crystals are combined.

    • Disclosed are saccharide and phosphocholine derivatives. The derivatives include azide and alkyne derivatives which form one end of a variable length carbon chain. The opposite end of the variable length carbon chain is covalently linked to the saccharide or phosphocholine. The saccharide may be, for instance, a maltoside. The alkyne and azide derivatives of the saccharides and phosphocholine may be reacted together to form amphiphilic molecules useful in cellular membrane studies and applications. By adjusting the length of the carbon chain, the biochemical and biophysical properties of the resultant 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole compounds may be custom tailored for the intended application. Resultant molecules may form micelles, bicelle, lipid bilayers and other like structures useful in the isolation and purification of membrane bound or membrane associated proteins and biochemical components. The saccharides and phosphocholine molecules may be alternatively substituted as desired to provide additional flexibility in designing the desired end product.
