    • A strapping mechanism includes an operating arm and a base arm pivotally coupled together at a shaft. A stop and a catch are slidably engaged in the base arm and the operating arm, and a pair of ratchet gears are secured on the shaft. The base arm includes two rings each having a bulge and includes a pair of hooks. The operating arm has a pair of flanges and a pair of projections for engaging with the stop so as to prevent the stop from disengaging from the ratchet gears. The catch is moved over the bulges to engage the flanges with the hooks when the operating arm is rotated toward the base arm.

    • A method and apparatus for opening the hood of a vehicle wherein the normal hood latch release mechanism is inaccessible or has been rendered inoperable by fire damage to a release cable, by providing an narrow opening at an unanchored portion of the vehicle hood by lifting the hood portion slightly away from the vehicle body to create a slight opening into the engine compartment at a point where the release cable can be reached by a tool and without permanently deforming the hood; providing a cable manipulating tool with an elongated body portion capable of being inserted through the narrow opening, the tool end being provided with a structure for grasping and holding the hood release cable and applying a tensive or other force to the cable to effect release of the hood latch; and using the apparatus by inserting the tool through said narrow opening, engaging the hood release cable and manipulating the tool to apply a tensive force to said cable to effect release of the hood latch; and manually opening the hood.

    • There is a winch bar for winding a winch having a winding drum with an annular wall and a circular opening. A plurality of winch bar receiving apertures extend diametrically through the drum on opposite sides of the wall. The winch bar has an outer portion dimensioned to extend through the apertures. The winch bar also has an inner portion larger than the apertures and a first shoulder between the inner portion and the outer portion. The outer portion includes an outer tip which tapers outwardly. There is a first segment of reduced section adjacent the tip and dimensioned to receive the wall of the drum on the first side thereof. A second shoulder is located between the tip and the first segment. There is a second segment of reduced section adjacent the first shoulder and which is dimensioned to receive the wall of the drum on a second side thereof. The bar has a third segment having a larger section than the first and second segments and which is located therebetween. The third segment is dimensioned to fit within the central opening of the drum between the first and second sides of the annular wall.

    • A lockable wire guide control handle for grasping and manipulating a wire guide. The control handle includes an elongated member and a thumb slide positioned in a retention channel formed in the distal portion of the elongated member. The proximal portion of the elongated member is cylindrical having an enclosed passageway extending longitudinally therethrough, which is offset for passage of the wire guide therethrough. The distal portion of the elongated member includes a dovetail-shaped retention channel, the bottom surface including an inclined slot for positioning the wire guide therein. The thumb slide includes a mating dovetail-shaped tenon positioned in the retention channel. Extending from the flat surface of the dovetail-shaped tenon is an inclined projection for fixedly positioning the wire guide in the inclined slot. The inclined slot and projection have a variable, uniform spacing therebetween for fixedly positioning various diameter wire guides therein.
