摘要： The invention provides a technique for optimizing transmission conditions to achieve large-capacity transmission, and also provides peripheral techniques for the practical implementation of optical multiplexing that makes large-capacity transmission possible. A transmission characteristic is measured in a transmission characteristic measuring section, and control of signal light wavelength in a tunable light source, control of the amount of prechirping, control of the amount of dispersion compensation, and/or control of optical power are performed to achieve the best transmission characteristic. Wavelength dispersion is deliberately introduced by a dispersion compensator, to reduce nonlinear effects. A tunable laser is used to optimize signal light wavelength for each optical amplification repeater section. Peripheral techniques, such as drift compensation, clock extraction, optical signal channel identification, clock phase stabilization, etc., are provided for the implementation of optical multiplexing.

The upstream TDMA frame includes a quiet phase during which none of the terminations transmit. The station (1) includes an opto-electronic receiver (4), a DC clamping circuit (10) for the opto-electronic receiver (4) and a clamping pulse generator. The clamping pulse generator is arranged to generate a pulse at a predetermined time falling within the quiet phase to operate the DC clamping circuit to clamp signals received during the remainder of the TDMA frame to a DC reference level received during the quiet phase.

Each transmitter may be associated with a corresponding subset of the managed servers and each managed server subset may include one or more digital light receivers. The transmitters may be configured to generate digital light indicative of the firmware update by modulating one or more visible light carrier signals in accordance with a modulation technique and the firmware update. The optical signal may have an expected pattern of polarization states through a birefringent material of the optical fiber from a first node to a second node. The optical signal may be received by the second node and resulting polarization states may be measured. In certain non-limiting examples, the measured polarization states may be compared to expected polarization states to determine a characterization angle indicative of an axis of the optical fiber.

A mobile device detects its own speed, and an LED within the mobile device accomplishes light emission in accordance with any out of a first light emission pattern, a second light emission pattern and a third light emission pattern so that the light emission cycle becomes shorter the faster the speed of the mobile device. On the other hand, a server detects the speed of the mobile device from frames obtained through imaging by an imager, and changes the imaging interval of the imager so that the imaging interval becomes longer the slower the speed.
