    • A system and a method are provided for generating (28) a schema (22) for a relational database corresponding to a document having a document-type definition (18) and data complying with the document-type definition (18). The document-type definition (19) has content particles representative of the structure of the document data including one or more of the following content particles: elements, attributes of elements, nesting relationships between elements, grouping relationships between elements, schema (22) ordering indicators, existence indicators, occurrence indicators and element ID referencing indicators. The system and method described herein also contemplates loading the data into the relational database in a manner consistent with the relational schema (22). Metadata is extracted from the document-type definition (18) representative of the document-type definition (18). The schema (22) for the relational database is generated from the metadata, wherein at least one table is thereby defined in the relational database corresponding to at least one content particle of the document-type definition (18) via the metadata (34). The data is then loaded into the at least one table of the relational dataset according to the relational schema (22) in a manner driven by the metadata (34).

    • The invention provides a novel expression cloning technique referred to as a matrix analysis of gene expression in cells (MAGEC) that allows for the indexed introduction, and analysis of nucleic acids in a host cell. While normally one takes cells attached to a surface followed by contacting the cells with heterologous DNA under conditions favoring the uptake of the heterologous DNA, the present invention, in sharp contrasts, proposes affixing (depositing) a nucleic acid-containing mixture onto a suitable surface and thereafter contacting suitable host cells (target cells) with the DNA-containing markings under conditions favoring uptake by the cells of the heterologous expression vector comprising a the target nucleic slide acid molecule. The method enables one to further characterize the gene product(s) of a known gene and unknown in a high-throughput assay format. It essentially allows for the identification of a gene based upon the function of its gene product.

    • The present invention provides, in one embodiment, a method of fabricating a semiconductor device (100). The method comprises growing an oxide layer (120) on a gate structure (114) and a substrate (102) and implanting a dopant (124) into the substrate (102) and the oxide layer (120). Implantation is such that a portion of the dopant (124) remains in the oxide layer (120) to form an implanted oxide layer (126). The method further includes depositing a protective oxide layer (132) on the implanted oxide layer (126) and forming etch-resistant off-set spacers (134). The etch-resistant off-set spacers (134) are formed adjacent sidewalls of the gate structure (114) and on the protective oxide layer (132). The etch resistant off-set spacers having an inner perimeter (135) adjacent the sidewalls and an opposing outer perimeter (136). The method also comprises removing portions of the protective oxide layer (132) lying outside the outer perimeter (136) of the etch-resistant off-set spacers (134). Other embodiments of the present invention include a transistor device (200) and method of manufacturing an integrated circuit (300).
