    • A disk unit includes a tray and a slide-restricting member. The tray conveys a disk between a disk-driving position positioned inside a chassis and a disk-exchanging position positioned outside the chassis. The slide-restricting member is provided between the tray and the chassis in a slidable manner and is engageable with a coupling part formed in at least one of the tray and the chassis to restrict the tray from moving beyond the disk-exchanging position when the tray is extracted and arrives at the disk-exchanging position. Further, the slide-restricting member is movable between a first position positioned in a backward direction from a rear-end part of the tray and a second position positioned in a forward direction from the rear-end part of the tray.

    • An active type photoelectric conversion device includes a pixel having a photoelectric conversion area and a gate area which are formed in a surface portion of a semiconductor substrate of a first conductivity type. The photoelectric conversion area includes a first semiconductor layer of a second conductivity type formed in the surface portion of the semiconductor substrate; a second semiconductor layer of the first conductivity type formed on the first semiconductor layer; and a FET including a drain and a source of the second conductivity type formed from the surface of the semiconductor substrate through the second semiconductor layer and a first gate electrode formed on the second semiconductor layer with an insulating layer therebetween, the FET generating signal charges by photoelectric conversion of light incident on the semiconductor substrate through the first gate electrode and the insulating layer, accumulating the signal charges in the second semiconductor layer, and generating an output signal corresponding to the signal charges. The gate area includes a second gate electrode formed on the semiconductor substrate with an insulating layer therebetween, the second gate electrode allowing the signal charges accumulated in the second semiconductor layer in the photoelectric conversion area to flow toward the semiconductor substrate in accordance with an applied voltage to the second semiconductor layer. The second semiconductor layer of the first conductivity type is depleted depending on the applied voltage.

    • A disc device has a movable mechanism used for moving a carriage carrying a disc so that the carriage either projects from an apparatus or is inserted into the apparatus. The disc carried by the carriage is exposed for an operator to handle the disc when the carriage projects from the apparatus. The disc carried by the carriage is contained in the apparatus after the carriage has been inserted into the apparatus. A rotating unit rotates the disc carried by the carriage and an accessing unit accesses the disc carried by the carriage. The disc device is incorporated into the apparatus. A locking mechanism locks the carriage in the apparatus, and a releasing unit causes the locking mechanism to release locking of the carriage in the apparatus. The releasing unit causes the rotating unit to stop rotating of the disc and also causes the accessing unit to stop accessing the disc, prior to each time the releasing unit causes the locking mechanism to release locking of the carriage in the apparatus. The locking mechanism is contained in the carriage.

    • A powder coating system for difficult to handle powders includes a powder hopper containing fluidized powder particles, a pump body connected to the hopper and having an inlet in communication with the hopper, an ejector nozzle mounted to the pump body and aimed at an outlet thereof, a second nozzle mounted to the pump body and aimed at the inlet thereof and a powder application device for receiving powder particles from the outlet of the pump body and spraying them onto an article to be coated. The ejector nozzle sprays pressurized air toward the outlet to transport powder particles along a flow path which extends from the powder hopper into the pump body via the inlet and then out of the pump body via the outlet. The second nozzle sprays air pulses at the inlet in a direction opposite the particle flow along the flow path caused by the ejector nozzle. This spray from the second nozzle creates microvibrations in the inlet of the pump body to eliminate powder particle adherence and cohesion thereat. The pump body may have separate, spaced intake and ejector portions, with the ejector nozzle mounted in the ejection portion and the second nozzle mounted on the intake portion.
