    • A hollow syringe barrel for use in syringe mixing systems for mixing a two-component composition. A hollow body of the syringe barrel includes a proximal end, a distal end, and continuous cylindrical wall defining an internal chamber for containing a first component. A rupturable membrane disposed at the distal end caps and seals off a single dispensing orifice. A second syringe barrel can be coupled to the distal end of the hollow syringe barrel to form a syringe-to-syringe mixing system. First and second plungers disposed within the hollow syringe barrel and second syringe barrel, respectively, are used to mix and cycle back and forth first and second components initially contained within the hollow syringe barrel and second syringe barrel. The two components are initially separated by the rupturable membrane, which is irreversibly ruptured by applying sufficient pressure to the first plunger within the hollow syringe barrel prior to mixing.

    • A customized dental tray comprising ULDPE is formed using a person's own teeth as a template, or using a stone model of the person's teeth. A preformed dental tray or sheet comprising ULDPE is heated to become plastically deformable and placed over at least a portion of the person's teeth in order to form an impression of the person's teeth and yield an intermediate customized dental tray. Upon cooling sufficiently, the intermediate tray is removed from the persons' mouth and trimmed as needed to yield a finished customized tray corresponding to the person's teeth. The performed tray or sheet preferably comprises ULDPE, which yields a highly flexible and resilient final tray, although they may also contain other polymers or blends. The customized dental tray is useful for teeth bleaching and other dental treatments known in the art.

    • Valve syringes of the invention include a syringe barrel and an applicator valve adapted to rotate relative to the barrel between closed and open positions. In the open position, one or more slots in the applicator valve align with one or more holes in a discharge end of the syringe barrel in order to allow fluid material to flow therethrough. In a closed position, the contact surface of the applicator valve occludes the holes in the barrel in order to seal them and prevent flow of fluid material therethrough. The valve syringe may include structure that increases the sealing engagement between the syringe barrel and applicator valve when rotated toward at least one of the open or closed positions. The applicator valve may include an applicator tip that is either integrally or detachably connected to the applicator valve. The valve syringe may also include a plunger adapted to expel fluid material contained in the syringe barrel through the discharge end and into the applicator valve. An end of the plunger may be tapered or otherwise configured so as to conform to the shape of the discharge end of the syringe barrel.

    • Dental bonding compositions and methods for promoting adhesion of an amalgam-based restorative material to a dental substrate. The inventive compositions include one or more polymerizable resins that are able to adhere to a dental substrate when at least partially polymerized, one or more polymerization photoinitiators in an amount so as to result in partial polymerization of the resin when the compositions are irradiated with radiant energy, and one or more chemical initiators (e.g., benzoyl peroxide) that cause further polymerization of the resin when the composition is contacted with an amalgam restorative. A bonding composition applied to a dental substrate and irradiated with radiant energy is more polymerized in a region adjacent to the dental substrate, while a less polymerized inhibition layer forms in the region of the surface. Packing an uncured amalgam into the dental preparation mechanically disrupts the inhibition layer so as to form peaks, troughs and other irregularities. Upon curing the amalgam and bonding composition, the disrupted inhibition layer greatly enhances the overall bond between the amalgam, bonding composition, and dental substrate.
