The assembly includes an occlusive implant device, such as an embolic coil, a pusher or device to carry the implant to the selected location, and an expandable coupling-decoupling mechanism for releasing the implant at the selected site. The mechanical construction provides rapid release times. In addition, the releasing mechanism generally operates without exerting any significant force on the implant, thereby avoiding any significant displacement of the implant during release.

摘要： This invention is an exceptionally flexible, ultrasoft vaso-occlusive or embolism forming device. It is made of a radiopaque material which may be braided or coiled to form a long, thin threadlike device having little rigidity or column strength. The diameter of the device may be less than about 0.010 inches. The wire making up the device used to form the coil or braid is typically of a diameter less than about 0.002 inches. The device is sufficiently flexible and small that it may be hydraulically delivered to a site within the vasculature of the human body using an injected drug or fluid flush through a catheter. The device assumes a loose, random mass of threadlike material after being ejected from the catheter tip at the chosen vascular site. The device (whether coil or braid) may be used alone or in conjunction with larger coils or braids to achieve a denser occlusion or as a substrate to localize the subsequent infusion of tissue adhesives, particulate embolization devices, or chemotherapeutic agents in abnormal blood vessels and tissues or for the temporary occlusion of blood vessels during types of diminished blood flow testing. The invention also include processes for introducing the devices into the human body.

摘要： An artery, vein, aneurysm, vascular malformation or arterial fistula is occluded through endovascular occlusion by the endovascular insertion of a platinum wire and/or tip into the vascular cavity. The vascular cavity is packed with the tip to obstruct blood flow or access of blood in the cavity such that the blood clots in the cavity and an occlusion if formed. The tip may be elongate and flexible so that it packs the cavity by being folded upon itself a multiple number of times, or may pack the cavity by virtue of a filamentary or fuzzy structure of the tip. The tip is then separated from the wire mechanically or by electrolytic separation of the tip from the wire. The wire and the microcatheter are thereafter removed leaving the tip embedded in the thrombus formed within the vascular cavity. Movement of wire in the microcatheter is more easily tracked by providing a radioopaque proximal marker on the microcatheter and a corresponding indicator marker on the wire. Electrothrombosis is facilitate by placing the ground electrode on the distal end of the microcatheter and flowing current between the microcatheter electrode and the tip.

摘要： A flexible, preferably coiled wire for use in small-vessel vaso-occlusion. The wire has a stretched, linear condition in which it can be advanced through a catheter lumen to a selected vessel, and a relaxed, convoluted condition produced by a combination of a helical winding of the wire, and irregularities of the helical winding. When the wire is released from a catheter into a vessel, it assumes a randomly coiled, substantially space-filling mass which is lodged at the site of release. In a preferred embodiment, the helical winding in the wire's relaxed condition has about the same diameter as that of the vessel, and the wire, in its stretched condition, has a length of about 15-20 times the vessel diameter.
