    • The burner comprises a combustion chamber equipped with a flame retention cone. The flame retention cone comprises a diverging jacket with orifices for the passage of oxygen-carrier gas. A fuel lance provided with radially arranged exit openings has its outlet in an upstream inlet section of the flame retention cone. An igniter is arranged in an oxygen-carrier gas duct outside an ignition opening provided in the area of the fuel lance exit openings. The combustion chamber is accommodated inside an outer tube. The downstream ends of the combustion chamber and the outer tube enclose openings spaced, relative to each other, in the circumferential direction to allow the exit of oxygen-carrier gas. The burner provides for flame stability and low-polluting combustion.

    • A burner for heating a high-velocity stream of a combustion supporting gas comprises a pipe fed with a fuel gas and extending across the flow direction of the combustion supporting gas stream. The pipe defines holes generating fuel gas jets directed in the direction of the combustion supporting gas stream flow, and a flame stabilizer is arranged downstream of the pipe in this direction, the flame stabilizer including two divergent combustion supporting gas stream deflector wings delimiting a downstream zone shielded from said gas stream and an upstream zone. A respective convergent-divergent nozzle is arranged in the downstream zone downstream of each hole and coaxially thereto, the nozzles having inlets facing the holes and the gas jets generated from these holes creating a negative pressure at the nozzle inlets, and the nozzle inlets communicating with the upstream zone through openings so arranged as to eliminate the influence of the dynamic pressure of the gas stream on the flow rate of gas drawn in by the nozzles through the openings.

    • A burner assembly for the smokeless flare burning of low calorific value gases, or diluted hydrocarbon gases, which comprises a plurality of separate burner heads arranged in a horizontal array, each of the burner heads being mounted on top of a vertical pipe through which the low calorific gases are supplied. A plurality of hollow radial arms are inserted into the wall of the head, arranged in equally-spaced array, each of the arms having a plurality of ports in the top surfaces, near the ends of the arms. These ports are of selected size and selected angle of their axes, which are tilted inwardly towards the central axis of the burner heads. Additionally, there is between each pair of arms at least one port drilled downwardly from the inside of the burner head, at a selected angle, so that jets of gas will impinge downwardly on an annular plate positioned beneath the arms, to close off the vertical flow to the space between the arms. The arms are surrounded by a shallow cylindrical wall which is perforated in a selected uniform pattern over its entire surface. Over each of the arms is a cylindrical tube against which the gas jets, which can be sonic, impinge, so that the jets are diffused throughout the entire volume between the arms and above the arms. Air diffuses inwardly through the surrounding perforated wall to mix quietly with the gas so as to maintain a continuous combustion, with sufficient air to prevent the formation of smoke.

    • A gas burner system for providing a thin, flat flame for use in a long narrow combustion space, has a first air supply plenum which has a long narrow rectangular cross-section, which is placed above a second plenum or combustion chamber of substantially the same cross-section. At the junction between the first and second plena there are longitudinal projections inwardly from both long walls of the second plenum, forming a long narrow rectangular inlet to the second plenum. A burner assembly comprising an elongated flattened pipe having a plurality of short air baffles welded on each side is supported in this narrow inlet to the second plenum and substantially in the center thereof. The overall width of the burner assembly is less than that of the inlet so that there are two longitudinal gaps between the burner assembly and the projections for the passage of combustion air. There are two sets of ports in the lower edge of the flattened pipe. A first set provides downstreamwardly and outwardly projecting ports for the passage of the major gas flow. A second set of smaller gas ports are drilled substantially laterally to the vertical, and the gas therefrom flows into the space behind the air baffles where a stable, sheltered flame can be provided, for continuous ignition of the major flow of gas issuing at high velocity from the first set of ports, and turbulently mixing with the air flow downwardly through the gaps. The walls of the second plenum and projections can be of conventional refractory material, or they can be of metal which is water cooled.

    • Apparatus for the smokeless combustion of gases, supplied at substantial pressure, such that they will aspirate the required combustion air when discharged to atmospheric pressure. The apparatus comprises a plurality of spaced apart burner assemblies, each of which has a plurality of orifices arranged in a circular symmetrical pattern. Each burner assembly comprises a vertical tube supplying gas, with a plurality of short substantially radial arms, each of which has a plurality of orifices in its top surface. The arms themselves are tilted upwardly at a selected angle to the horizontal so that the orifices that are perpendicular to the arms will provide gas jets which will intersect each other along the axis of the assembly. In another embodiment, the top surface of the arms form a plane fingered plate of substantial thickness. The orifices are drilled at a selected angle toward the axis, in the top surface of the plate. In a third embodiment, each burner assembly comprises a toroid, or circular ring of pipe, with a plurality of circumferentially spaced orifices in the top surface of the pipe inclined at a selected angle to the plane of the pipe.
