摘要： A diagnostic test pack for determining phenylalanine in blood (e.g. for detection of phenylketonuria) comprises an absorbent carrier strip to which serum to be tested may be applied and a developer comprising 0.3-1.0% ninhydrin dissolved in the separated upper layer formed when butanol and aqueous acetic acid are mixed and allowed to stand. The carrier is preferably paper, but any bibulous material, e.g. made of cellulose, modified cellulose, polyvinyl chloride, or glass fibres may be used. In use, a serum containing a known amount of alanine is preferably spotted, with the serum to be tested, on the test strip, the sera allowed to dry, and the spots developed by ascending, descending, circular, disc or radial chromatography. After development and drying, the colour intensity of the furthest advanced spots, is compared.
