    • A fireplace unit includes a pair of spaced apart opposite, upright sidewalls. The sidewalls define an interior compartment of the fireplace unit. The sidewalls each have a forward end and rearward end substantially aligned along lines that converge rearwardly. The sidewalls are one of (1) joined directly together at the rearward ends and (2) joined together at the rearward ends by an upright rear wall having a transverse width that is less than ¾ of the transverse width of each of the sidewalls for at least a majority of the rear wall's length. The upper end of each of the sidewall slopes upward from the forward end toward the rearward end. A floor extends between the sidewalls for closing the lower end of the interior compartment. A cover is coupled to the upper ends of the sidewalls for closing the upper end of the interior compartment. A flue is provided for directing smoke and air out of the interior compartment. A smoke diversion body is provided for forming a smoke flow area constriction.

    • An automated temperature control system for a barbecue grill or other structure comprises an automated damper assembly coupled to a vent of said grill, which damper assembly opens and closes selectively to adjust the flow passage area of the grill's vent. The system further comprises an operating area temperature probe for communicating the temperature of the operating area of the grill to the automated damper assembly, such that the automated damper assembly may maintain a user-specified target operating temperature by way of affecting combustion rates within the grill. A remote control may also be provided to allow the user to input a desired temperature for the system to obtain and/or to change temperature information for the grill or other structure.

    • The invention relates to a solid-fuel heating apparatus that includes a combustion chamber (1) and a first flue-gas discharge duct (6), characterized in that the heating apparatus includes: a dual wall (2A) defining a second flue-gas discharge duct (2) located outside the combustion chamber and on the flue gas path between the combustion chamber (1) and said first duct (6), and provided in a vertical section thereof with a plurality of controlled communication valves (11, 12, 13, 14, etc.) arranged at respectively different heights (h1, h2, h3, h4, etc.), the second flue-gas discharge duct (2) being adapted via an opening (2B) in the lower portion of the dual wall (2A) so as to extend the flow path of the flue gas by an amount depending on the selection of the open inlet valve in the second duct (2) while the others are closed; adjusting means adapted for selecting, for each of the valves (11, 12, 13, 14, etc.), an open or closed position based on the temperature of the flue gas measured by a temperature probe (7) located at said first duct (6) so as to adjust the length of the flow path of the flue gas (3) in order to minimize the temperature of the flue gas while maintaining the latter above the dew point thereof.

    • This invention relates to a one-piece, self-contained air-heating, slide-in residential fireplace insert system comprising three sections: a control/base section, a front closure system and a tubing system; in particular to a system containing a plurality of individual tubularly confined columns of moving air (under fan pressure) surrounding a heat-radiating source on five sides, (excluding the front closure), where-in the said columns of moving air are heated within the said tubing system by radiation from the said heat-radiating source through the metal walls of the said confined columns of moving air before the said heated air is exited into an attending room.     • A wireless damper control device comprises a damper positioned in a flue, movable between a closed position where the flue is blocked and an open position, a damper controller which sends a damper signal which moves the damper between the open position and the closed position, and a fire side controller which transmits a fireplace signal to open a gas valve to initiate combustion when a fire is desired at a fireplace, and to close the gas valve to terminate combustion when a fire is no longer desired at the fireplace, and which receives a damper status signal from the damper controller indicating whether the damper is in the closed position or the open position. When a fire is desired at the fireplace, the fire side controller transmits a damper control signal to move the damper to the open position, and the fireside controller transmits the fireplace signal to open the gas valve after receiving the damper status signal indicating that the damper is in the open position, and the fire side controller is wirelessly connected to the flue side controller.
