    • One manifestation of an advanced superventuri power source comprises: (i) a series of at least three venturi tubes with at least one threesome of the tubes labeled an alpha-, beta-, and gamma-venturi tube respectively, and of predetermined successively increasing flow capacity respectively; (ii) the alpha- and beta-venturi tubes each having an open entrance to permit flow through the respective open entrance and out of the respective open exit; (iii) respective inlets of the threesome each facing the intended direction of flow; (iv) the open exits of the alpha- and beta-venturi tubes placed adjacent the throats of the beta- and gamma-venturi tubes, respectively, so that respective central axes of the threesome essentially merge into a central super-axis along an intended line of flow; (v) as referenced from the super-axis, the inlets of the alpha-, beta-, and gamma-venturi tubes being positioned to intercept relatively inner, intermediate, and outer portions of the selected medium as an alpha-, beta-, and gamma-flow, respectively, whereby in operation the alpha-flow as exhaust from the open exit of the alpha-venturi tube joins accelerated beta-flow adjacent the throat of the beta-venturi tube and the beta-flow as exhaust from the open exit of the beta-venturi tube, in turn, joins accelerated gamma-flow adjacent the throat of gamma-venturi tube; and (vi) a beta-turbine adjacent the throat of the beta-venturi tube to recover useful rotary mechanical power.

    • A wind turbine having a central deflecting cone and a shroud surrounding the cone. The shroud in cooperation with the cone direct air flow to turbine blades which extend across the narrowest gap between said shroud and said cone. The wind turbine is rotatably supported at the apex of the cone such that wind passing through the blades causes the turbine to spin. A transfer gear box near the apex of the cone causes rotation of a power transmission shaft which also acts as the support tower for the turbine. The shroud is made of a fabric material and assumes its proper shape under the influence of the wind passing through the turbine.

    • A device including a flow unit generating a potential vortex having an inflow aperture and an outflow aperture, together with a turbine arranged in the direction of flow of the potential vortex. The flow unit comprises an outer hollow member having a plurality of flaps and plates at both ends, with one plate containing the outflow aperture, and an inner hollow member arranged concentrically of the outer hollow member. The built-up pressure acting on the outer hollow member opens some of the movable flaps and closes others, which generates a rotary flow. The rotary flow, while flowing tangentially into the inner hollow member, is accelerated further and forms a swirl flow which is directed outwardly by the vacuum at the outflow aperture and which, after having passed through the outflow aperture, is converted into the potential vortex by the shear forces of the parallel flows. A separating element in the outer member divides the rotary flow into a first and a second partial flow and has a through-flow aperture directed towards the inner hollow member. The potential vortex draws a flow volume from the second partial flow or from outside through the through-flow aperture, with the turbine being arranged in the potential vortex. Vortex generating elements convert the second partial flow into a plurality of vortices, with the vortices being included in the potential vortex. The potential vortex coil produced in this way generates an intensifying flow field.

    • A device for generating power from wind which includes a shaft extending in a longitudinal direction and propelling elements mounted on the shaft. The shaft is mounted for rotation in a frame which is also mounted for rotation. The device also includes a deflector on the frame for deflecting wind into the propelling elements by orienting the frame due to rotation thereof to have a portion thereof facing the direction of travel of the wind. The deflector also increases the force of the wind on the propelling elements by compressing the wind and further deflects the wind to strike the propelling elements at a position radially outwardly of the shaft and radially inwardly of an outer periphery of the frame. The deflector further prevents the wind from striking the propelling elements along a part of the outer periphery of the frame which faces the wind direction.

    • A fluid energy converter having a squirrel-cage-like rotor in which blades peripherally distributed about a horizontal axis of rotation are in a plane generally parallel to the axis of rotation. An entry at one end of the rotor is arranged to face the oncoming fluid for receipt thereof. A contoured deflector on the interior of the rotor forms an annular path or duct for redirecting the predominantly axial flow of fluid from the entry outwardly to the peripherally distributed blades and through the slots therebetween. The total area of the slots exists through which the fluid passes is preferably made less than either the entry area of the cross-sectional area of the duct leading to the blades such that the blades act as a constriction in the fluid passageway, somewhat as a venturi restriction in the flow path. The high efficiencies obtained in operating the converter are believed due to a jet action of the air released from the venturi slots between blades in addition to the force of reduced pressure produced on each blade to rotate the rotor. A ring about the entry is aerodynamically shaped to cause fluid passing over the entry to direct the fluid exiting from the blades so that it follows a greater diameter aerodynamic aft fairing structure of slightly greater diameter than the entry ring to promote greater efficiency of operation of the unit. Both air and liquid driven blading arrangements are disclosed. A second embodiment of the invention incorporates blades angled upwardly from the axis of rotation but with a directional component predominantly parallel to the axis.
