    • The invention relates to an aerodynamic wind propulsion device, particularly for watercrafts, comprising an aerodynamic wing being connected to a steering unit by a tractive cable, having a first end of the tractive cable connected to the steering unit and a second end of the tractive cable connected to a base platform, a guiding line having a first end connected to the aerodynamic wing or to the steering unit, a pole being connected to the base platform. According to the invention, an aerodynamic wind propulsion device as mentioned above is provided, characterized in that a second end of the guiding line is connected to the base platform during and between starting and landing maneuvers wherein the guiding line is guided through or along the pole and is capable of transferring a tensile force onto the aerodynamic wing at least during starting or landing.

    • A sail assembly having a single, closed-loop support batten that supports a flexible sail. The sail is a hollow body defining a substantially hemispherical shape when fully expanded by captured wind. The support batten is housed in a perimeter sleeve at the front end of the sail. The support batten is stiff enough to support the sail, yet elastic enough that it can be twisted and coiled as three contiguous coils for compact folding. The sail has a significantly smaller size in the folded and coiled orientation, and is capable of rapid self deployment due to the energy stored in the folded batten. The deployed sail can be fastened to the deck of a small watercraft, hand held, or fastened to the blade end of a paddle or oar for capturing the energy in the wind to propel a small watercraft.

    • A Savonius vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) rotor is easily and simply constructed while having enhanced functionality. The rotor includes a shaft that is vertical in use, a number (desirably at least four) of vane support hubs each having a number (desirably three) of at least partially curved spokes extending radially outwardly, and a number of vanes corresponding to the number of spokes. The vane support hubs are operatively connected directly to the shaft and spaced vertically from each other along the shaft to provide a plurality of sets of vertically spaced spokes. The vanes, one for each set of spokes, are operatively connected to the spokes to provide surface area for engaging wind and rotating the shaft when in use. Desirably the vane support hubs are operatively connected to the shaft using mechanical fasteners, and the vanes are connected to the spokes using mechanical fasteners. Structural end caps are not necessary, and therefore the rotor is devoid of them. The vane support hubs and spokes are desirably integral and made of metal or fiber reinforced plastic, and the vanes may be made of sheet metal. Further provided is a vane support assembly for a Savonius or open helix VAWT including a vane support hub defining an opening, a number of at least partially curved spokes integral with the vane support hub and extending radially outwardly, and an adaptation part of the hub which allows it to be operatively connected to a shaft extending through the opening. Also provided is a complete Savonius or open helix VAWT.

    • An aerodynamic lift enhancement gate valve including a valve blade shaped as an airfoil or as a sail and is disposed at the leading edge of an airfoil. Or as a sail, in such a way as to form a fluid gate formed between the trailing edge (at the chord) of the gate valve blade, and the leading edge (nose) of the airfoil or sail, (at the chord). The gate valve blade catches the wind, and will cause a wind velocity surface pressure to build against the upwind surface of the gate valve blade, which pressure is regulated by springs and or elastic. When in operation, the chord of the gate valve blade will remain substantially parallel to the chord of the airfoil, or sail. The air particles at the upwind side of the fluid gate are under pressure, which pressure will overhaul the progressive springs and or elastic tension, and cause the air particles to escape through the fluid gate, to accelerate as they break free from the trailing edge of the gate valve blade. The relative position of the gate valve blade chord, will cause the accelerating air particles to be directed at the appropriate angle of incidence, toward the downwind cambered surface of the airfoil or sail, (i.e. to enhance the aerodynamic lift (torque) to the airfoil or sail).

    • A wakeboard binding plate assembly includes a binding plate and binding chassis that allows for a light weight and low cost attachment of a boot assembly to the wakeboard. The binding plate includes toothed segments on a side that are adapted to engage toothed segments in a bottom surface of the binding chassis of a boot assembly. The angular position of boot assembly with respect to the binding plate is determined, and the binding plate is fitted to the binding chassis so that the angular position is attained, with the teeth of the plate and chassis engaged to maintain the desired angular orientation. The plate has slots and the chassis has openings, and fasteners extend through the slots and into the openings to attach the plate to the chassis. The plate is equipped with ears that facilitate attachment to the wakeboard.
