摘要： The invention comprises a novel design for a label which can be applied to the edge of a folder, card, or other substrate. A paper face stock secured to a flexible film coating and having a pressure sensitive adhesive is provided with a plurality of cuts in parallel array. The cuts allow the label to be applied to a substrate having a substantial thickness without resulting in the wrinkling which would normally occur absent the cuts. A process for cutting the face stock consists of the use of a cutting disk having a plurality of edges. Substrates having a variety of thicknesses can be accommodated.

摘要： Method and apparatus for affixing index tabs to book pages include accurately embossing indicia along a continuous first strip of plastic-coated paper, adhering cardboard reinforcing strips to the first strip and slitting and scoring the resulting assembly to provide tab strip stock. The tab strip stock is severed into successive tabs and carried by vacuum-operated clamping means to an adhesive-activating station and then a tab application station. Successive pages of a book are fed past the tab application location; those to be provided with tabs are stopped at various positions relative to the tab application locations and the clamping means folds tabs around the edges of selected pages.

摘要： An index tab is disclosed which attaches over a corner of a sheet or several sheets of paper. The tab includes a tubular body which has a paper enclosing portion receptive to a triangular corner portion of the sheets of paper and a projecting portion which projects from an edge of the sheets of paper. The index tab is attached to the papers by means of a single staple which penetrates both the paper enclosing portion of the body and the corner of the sheets of paper so that the same staple which holds the paper together, also attaches the index tab thereto.

摘要： Apparatus for applying at predetermined positions within a predetermined location on a carrier surface predetermined discrete pieces of indicia which in combination provide a predetermined indicia presentation particular to the carrier surface location as part of a scheme of marking like surface locations with indicia presentations which may vary from location to location; the apparatus comprising a plurality of indicia applying sources consisting of a source for each discrete piece of indicia to be called for by the scheme, means for feeding the carrier surface past each of the indicia applying sources so that each predetermined point within the predetermined location is presented for the application thereto of indicia from each source, and a control unit for controlling the indicia applying sources in response to input thereto of input control data for the predetermined surface location defining the discrete pieces of indicia and position thereof required therefor, the control unit operating to activate any of the sources which applies any discrete piece of indicia called for by the input control data respective such location to effect application of such indicia at any and all positions called for by such input control data. The apparatus is especially adapted for applying color coded labels and the indicia applying sources are labelling devices for applying such labels.

摘要： An index system for indexing directories such as telephone books includes a paper guide strip positioned adjacent a film plastic tab strip segmented into a plurality of uniquely identified tabs spaced along the tab strip. The guide and tab strips are coupled to one another along adjacent edges by means of an adhesive transfer strip extending the length of the guide and tab strips along the junction thereof on one side. As tabs are removed for application, the pressure-sensitive adhesive is transferred to the tabs while the guide and transfer strips serve as a guide for positioning the tabs on the pages of the directory.
