    • A cutter for cutting, in stages, irradiated bundles of nuclear fuel rods, pecially from pressurized-water or boiling-water reactors. The cutter includes a feed channel associated with transverse and longitudinal feed devices for the rod bundle. A cutter housing is arranged at the mouth of the channel. A cutter carriage can be moved at right angles to the feed channel and is provided with a cutter blade; a fixed counter-blade cooperates with this cutter blade; a rod bundle clamping mechanism is located ahead of the cutting plane and is provided with two alternately actuatable clamping jaws. The cutter carriages, the cutting blade, the counter-blade, and the two clamping jaws can be removed and replaced. The transporting, clamping, and cutting devices are respectively provided with their own drive unit. The feed device has a guide channel formed by a fixed table plate which is provided with a guide bar mounted thereon, by a removable supporting beam which is provided with a closure slide, and by a second removable supporting beam. An interchangeable guide rail is provided for the cutter carriage.

A driven gear is drivingly connected to the saw blade and is supported in bearings, one of which is positioned in a recess formed in one face of the gear.

    • A shear for cutting bar stock includes upper and lower cutting blade supports each having a cutting blade, and a hold-down member, all pivotally connected about a working bearing. This assembly is pivotally mounted about a second bearing or pivot axis on one end of a frame of the shear, and is height-adjustable by a lockable hydraulic actuator attached to the upper cutting blade support at the opposite end of the shear, to provide vertical adjustability of the cutting point with minimal horizontal or angular displacement thereof. Preferably, the two pivot axes and the cutting point are coplanar. The upper cutting blade support is pivoted relative to the lower one by a hydraulic actuator engaging the upper support at one upper part thereof which is not so coplanar, to provide both a relatively long lever arm and a relatively long cutting arm for minimizing arcuation of the cutting movement. One cutting blade is adjustable within its support for optimum positioning taking into account the shape of the stock. The hold-down member is hydraulically locked into position with the lower (thrusting) cutting blade and moves therewith relative to the upper (contact) cutting blade, providing a three-point support to yield a clean cut.

    • A profile-steel shear usable for cutting or punching profile-steel members has a pair of relatively fixed, spaced-apart, and parallel frame plates flanking a drive plate having a lower end edge engaging the upper end edge of a blade-type work plate. U-shaped clips or elements each have one leg engaged in a respective groove of the drive plate and another leg engaged in a respective groove of the work plate so that these U-shaped elements secure the work and drive plates together for relative displacement by means of a hydraulic actuator normally situated atop the frame plates. These U-shaped elements are releasably retained on the work and drive plates with their legs in the respective grooves by means of screws engaged through them and with the work or drive plates.

The urging spring is also adjustable to vary its effective urging force. A unique gear train drivingly interconnects the rollers and is arranged to maintain their teeth in meshed driving relation during and at the adjusted positions of the spaced rollers.
