    • An excess pressure and/or excess flow/temperature shutoff valve comprising a valve housing having an axial bore therethrough with inlet and outlet ends, a portion of the bore being enlarged to form a valve chamber, and a spool movable in the valve chamber and having a sealing fit with the walls of the chamber. In the event of an upstream pressure increase of predetermined magnitude, the spool is adapted to move from an open position in which it permits flow of fluid through the bore to a position wherein additional spool area is exposed to the upstream fluid pressure, whereupon the spool is adapted to move further downstream to a shut off position for blocking the flow of fluid through the bore. The valve may be optionally equipped to shut off the flow of fluid in the event of a downstream pressure decrease as a result of excess leakage and/or an increase in fluid temperature in excess of a predetermined value.

    • A valve housing is adapted to be supported on a tubular member, there being bore means in the valve housing. Passage means are provided in the tubular member and in the valve housing for communicating fluid from the interior of the tubular member through the bore means to the interior of an inflatable element carried by the tubular member for inflation of the inflatable element. First valve means in the bore means control fluid flow into the bore means, and second valve means in the bore means control fluid flow from the bore means to the inflatable element. Means retain the second valve means in position in the bore means to close off flow to the inflatable element until a first predetermined pressure is reached in the bore means and for releasing the second valve means so that it may move to communicate the bore means for flow to the interior of the inflatable element when the first predetermined pressure is reached. Means retain the first valve in position in the bore means to accommodate flow to the bore means until a second predetermined pressure, which is higher than the first predetermined pressure, is reached in the bore means, and for releasing the first valve means to move and close off flow from the tubular member to said bore means when the second predetermined pressure is reached. The inflating pressure and annulus well bore pressure assist in retaining the second valve means closed after the element has been inflated.

    • The housing (5, 6) of the regulator contains a medium-pressure chamber (10) to which gas is supplied from the cylinder when a self-closing cylinder valve (2) is open and which communicates with the regulator outlet (14) through a further valve (b 13), and a low-pressure chamber (23) in open communication with the outlet. The medium-pressure chamber (10) has a diaphragm wall (15) with a spindle (16) for controlling the cylinder valve (2). The low-pressure chamber (23) has a diaphragm wall (22) for controlling the further valve (13) through a connecting rod (20) carried by the diaphragm wall and coacting at its upper end with a manual selector (21) and at its lower end with the valve opener spindle (16). By means of the selector the connecting rod may be locked in a raised position in which the cylinder valve (2) is closed.The connecting rod (20) is associated with a lockable spring mechanism (27) which is unlocked in response to a predetermined overpressure in the low-pressure chamber and which then moves the connecting rod to its raised position. This prevents a leakage of gas in case of a ruptured diaphragm or flexible tube if the further valve (13) does not close tightly when the gas consumption has been discontinued.

    • An inflatable packer assembly includes a cylindrical mandrel with a cylindrical valve body concentrically disposed about the mandrel. The valve body includes an inlet communicating with an interior of the mandrel and an outlet for directing fluid to an inflatable element of the packer assembly. First and second axial bores, containing first and second pistons, respectively, are disposed in said valve body and communicate with an end surface thereof. The first bore also communicates with said inlet. A first port connects the first and second bores. A second port connects the second bore and the outlet. The first piston is held in a first position blocking said first port until a pressure differential across the first piston reaches a first level at which the first piston is released and is moved to a second position allowing fluid communication between the inlet and the first port. The second piston is held in a first position allowing fluid communication between said first and second ports until a pressure differential across said second piston reaches a second level, higher than said first level, at which said second piston is released and is moved to a second position blocking said second port.

    • A well safety valve adapted to be positioned in a well tubing and close on either a predetermined high tubing pressure or a predetermined low tubing pressure. The valve closure member in the valve body moves between an open and closed position in response to longitudinal movement of a tubular member. The tubular member has an open bore for alignment with the bore of the well tubing to provide straight through flow through the safety valve. In addition, the tubular member has a plurality of telescoping sections and releasable and resettable locking means normally securing the plurality of sections together. A predetermined high tubing pressure or a predetermined low tubing pressure acting on the tubular member causes the valve to close.

    • A slam-shut valve provides overpressure protection in a pipeline in the event of pressure regulator failure. The slam-shut valve is normally held in the open position by a latch assembly. Overpressure or failure of the regulator will automatically trigger operation of the slam-shut valve to close the same and prevent further passage of the gas through the pipeline. The reset assembly must be manually operated to re-engage the latch assembly so as to open the slam-shut valve once it has been triggered closed.The latch assembly coacts with a release assembly having a release shaft which detachably holds a spring latch affixed to a lever pivotally mounted upon the reset shaft of the reset assembly.Subsequent to its release, the spring latch will be re-engaged with the release shaft in order to reopen the slam-shut valve. Dependent upon the position of the release shaft, the spring latch may be required to deflect prior to relatching upon the release shaft. Otherwise, the lever of the reset assembly will reposition the release shaft in the raised position upon the spring latch being re-engaged therewith.In any event, the latch assembly provides for low-friction, binding-free release of the reset assembly promptly to close the slam-shut valve once an overpressure condition triggers operation thereof.
