摘要： The content-aware application switch and methods thereof intelligently switch client packets to one server among a group of servers in a server farm. The switch uses Layer 7 or application content parsed from a packet to help select the server and to schedule the transmitting of the packet to the server. This enables refined load-balancing and Quality of-Service control tailored to the application being switched. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, a method includes maintaining a server load metric for each server in a group of servers; parsing application content from a packet; selecting a destination server from the group of servers, wherein selecting the destination server is dependent on the server load metric for each server, assigning a priority to the packet, the priority being dependent on the application content; and dropping the packet if the priority comprises at least one of a predetermined type.

When a client seeks to access a logical database, the client may send a logical server and logical database name in a data structure. Once the location is determined, a proxy component is used to intercept and/or forward communications between the client and the physical server(s) and database(s) corresponding to the logical database. Using this system, a client may access data from a logical database without knowing the physical address of the logical user database.

A message is received and at least one query request is determined from the message. The at least one query request is sent to a query server. In the case that no response to the query request is received within the timeout period, a value is determined from the value data for the query request stored in the query store. Alternatively, in the case that a response to the query request is received within the timeout period, a value is determined from the response, value data for the value is stored in the query store, and response time data for the period the response took to be received is stored in the query store. An action in response to the message is then determined using the value obtained from the query store or the value obtained from the response, and the action is performed.

Specifically, a network device receives a request for a particular service from a client device. Then, from a plurality of network devices that include functionality to provide the particular service, the network device selects a first subset of network devices based on stored data indicating that the first subset of network devices is associated with the client device. The network device further orders the plurality of network devices to obtain an ordered list such that the first subset of network devices is in a more preferred order than a second subset of network devices that are not included in the stored data. The network device next transmits, to the client device, information identifying the first subset of network devices as available devices for providing the particular service.

摘要： A system, method and computer-readable medium for request routing based on content popularity information are provided. A client computing device transmits a first DNS query to a content delivery network service provider. The content delivery network service provider transmits an alternative resource identifier in response to the client computing device DNS query. The alternative resource identifier is selected as a function of popularity information pertaining to the requested resource. The client computing device then transmits a second DNS query to the content delivery network service provider. The content delivery network service provider can then either resolve the second DNS query with an IP address of a cache component or transmit another alternative resource identifier that will resolve to the content delivery network service provider. The process can repeat until a DNS nameserver resolves a DNS query from the client computing device.
