    • An image forming apparatus includes a latent image forming unit, a developing unit, a transfer unit, a detector, an adjustment unit, and a controller. The latent image forming unit concentrates a beam emitted from a light source onto a surface of a photoconductor and forms a latent image on the surface of the photoconductor. The developing unit develops the latent image on the surface of the photoconductor to form a toner image. The transfer unit transfers the toner image on the surface of the photoconductor onto a transferred-image receiving member. The detector detects a potential of the latent image or a density of the toner image. The adjustment unit adjusts a focusing state of the concentrated beam on the photoconductor. The controller controls the adjustment unit in accordance with a result of detecting the potential of the latent image or the density of the toner image.

    • A pattern detection sensor includes a light emitting element for specular reflection, a light emitting element for diffuse reflection light, and a light receiving element. When turning on the light emitting element for specular reflection to emit light, a light source switching unit keeps off the light emitting element for diffuse reflection light. When turning on the light emitting element for diffuse reflection light to emit light, the light source switching unit keeps off the light emitting element for specular reflection. An offset detection unit detects a difference between a detection timing by specular reflection light and another detection timing by diffuse reflection light as an offset value (mutual detection error).

    • An image forming apparatus includes an image bearer; a toner image forming unit, a transfer unit, a detector, and a controller. The toner image forming unit forms a plurality of types of density detection patterns on the surface of the image bearer in mutually-different positions in a surface-movement direction of the image bearer. The density detection patterns have mutually-different lengths in a direction orthogonal to the surface-movement direction of the image bearer. The transfer unit transfers the density detection patterns onto the surface of the transfer member. The detector detects image densities of the density detection patterns transferred on the surface of the transfer member. The controller calculates an image density difference between the density detection patterns on a basis of a detection result obtained by the detector, and corrects a transfer bias for transferring a toner image on a basis of a value of the image density difference.

    • An image forming apparatus and an auto color registration method of the same which prints a color image by single pass, the image forming apparatus including: a plurality of developing units which each develops a color image in a predetermined color; a transfer unit which transfers the color image developed by developing units to the print medium and include a transfer belt rotatably installed on a transfer path; a first detector provided in a predetermined location of the transfer belt to face the transfer belt and detects any defect from a surface of the transfer belt; a second detector provided in a predetermined location of the transfer belt to face the transfer belt and detects a test pattern of an auto color registration (ACR) error transferred to the transfer belt; and a controller which adjusts the ACR error based on data detected by the first detector and the second detector.

    • In an image forming apparatus, a processor performs: a solid density stabilization of adjusting, in accordance with detected toner adhesion amounts of solid toner images of solid tone patterns, a condition to form solid images with respective target image densities; a misregistration reduction of adjusting, in accordance with detection timing of position detection toner images of misregistration detection patterns, a condition to reduce misregistration of toner images; and a halftone density stabilization of adjusting, in accordance with detected toner adhesion amounts of area coverage modulation toner images, a condition to form halftone images with respective target image densities. The processor continuously performs the solid density stabilization and the misregistration reduction, and starts the halftone density stabilization when the solid density stabilization is completed and the misregistration reduction is not completed, to concurrently perform a step of the misregistration reduction and at least a step of the halftone density stabilization.
