摘要： The disclosure provides rifamycin and rifamycin derivative compositions, including rifabutin and rifabutin derivative compositions able to cause drug-sensitization in a cancer cell or inhibition of a cancer cell. The disclosure also provides methods of administering such compositions to cancer cells to sensitize them to drugs, such as chemotherapeutics, or directly inhibit them. The disclosure also provides methods of administering such compositions to increase reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly superoxides, in cancer cells. The disclosure further provides methods of determining whether a cancer will respond to chemotherapeutics and whether to administer rifamycin or a rifamycin derivative based on ROS levels in cancer cells of a patient.

The sensor components are in thin film states such as sensing films or membranes, with a glucose probe associated with emission of radiation in the blue part of the spectrum, an oxygen probe associated with radiation in red portion of the spectrum, and a pH probe—with a green portion of the spectrum. The optical probes are chemically grafted or immobilized in a suitable polymer matrix, alleviating the leaching of the probes from the matrix, improving the thin film sensing stability, and enabling the repeatable use of the same sensing films.

In one embodiment, a pump is used to advance the sample of bodily fluid through a filter to produce a filtrate. Another pump advances filtrate into the reaction chamber, while another pump advances reactant into the reaction chamber. A sensor in communication with the reaction chamber determines a concentration of nitric oxide or one of its metabolic products. Methods are also disclosed.

摘要： 2,5-Bis(benzoxazol-2′-yl)benzene-1,4-diol derivatives (Zinhbo derivatives) are used to detect zinc ions and have particular application in vivo and in vitro. Zinhbo derivatives upon excitation give a florescence response emission that can be used to determine the presence of zinc cation in solution. Zinhbo derivatives complexed with zinc cations upon excitation can produce a florescence response emission in the visible and near infrared range. Zinhbo derivatives complexed with zinc cations exhibit a large stoke shift between the excitation and emission wavelengths.

摘要： A highly sensitive method that utilizes a Paper Analytical Device (PAD) which measures part per million (ppm) levels of iodate iodometric titration is provided. The PAD quantifies concentrations of 0.6-15 parts per million (ppm) of iodine. The PAD has at least 12 reaction zones that contain dried reagents thereon and at least one electronically readable information zone. Salt and water are mixed and drops are placed onto 12 reaction zones that contain the loaded dry reagents. The PAD is shaken and the reaction zones turn blue if a preset iodate concentration has been exceeded. Test results are analyzed by comparing the PAD or an image of the PAD with standards, either by eye or with image analysis software to measure the color intensities which are compared to a calibration curve to quantify the iodate levels. The image analysis quantifies iodine with an average absolute accuracy and precision of 0.9 ppm over a range of 0.6-15 ppm.
