    • A process for preparing a polymer latex comprising encapsulated pigment particles, said process comprising the steps of: a) Providing a first dispersion comprising water, at least one surfactant and at least one particulate, inorganic pigment of which the particles have a mean diameter of from 200 nm to 10 μm; b) Providing a second dispersion comprising water, a dispersant, a hydrophobe and at least two polymerizable monomers, of which monomers at least one is an acrylic monomer; c) Independently homogenizing the first and/or second dispersions; d) Mixing said first and second dispersions and homogenizing said mixture until the particles of pigment are encapsulated by monomer droplets; and e) Initiating polymerization of the monomers. In an embodiment, the at least two polymerizable monomers comprise at least one acrylic monomer and at least one monomer being vinyl acetate, styrene or another non-acrylic monomer comprising a polymerizable double bond.
