摘要： A hard mold and method of preparing the mold is disclosed. The hard mold is designed for manufacturing articles having various shapes and patterns. The shaping mold includes a layer of hardened material provided over the entire surface of the selected master. The inventor has found that a polyurea coating or other polyurethane hybrid is preferred. Once the layer of hardened material has dried, the surface of the hardened material is sanded with a 20-40 grit sandpaper and a layer of polyester resin is then applied to the layer of hardened material. Once the polyester resin is applied, multiple layers of vinyl ester are applied to the polyester resin to prevent the polyester resin from shrinking. In the preferred embodiment, the application includes at least three (3) layers of vinyl ester.

The microstructured layer is made from an aromatic acrylate polymer that is a reaction product of an oligomer and a radiation curable diluent, the aromatic acrylate polymer having a ratio of aromatic to aliphatic carbons of less than about 1:1, the oligomer comprising a multifunctional acrylate monomer or an acrylate functionalized oligomer. The microstructured layer has a microstructured surface having one or more features. The base layer may be metal, polymer, ceramic, or glass. Also disclosed herein is a method of making the microstructured tool using laser ablation. The microstructured tool may be used to make articles suitable for use in optical applications.

Compressive strength is augmented by incorporating a large fraction of a non-reactive bulk filler into the precursor polymer gel.

A first liquid high polymer precursor is formed on the master mold and then partially cured. A support film having high UV transmittance is attached to the partially cured high polymer. The attached support film and the partially cured high polymer are treated with a coupling agent and a second liquid high polymer precursor is formed on the partially cured high polymer and the support film. The second liquid high polymer precursor and the partially cured high polymer are then fully cured to form a mold. The fully cured mold is stripped from the master mold to form a soft mold having a predetermined shape on one surface.
