    • A filter assembly (24) includes a first filter portion (80) with a first attachment (100) adapted to attach to a tubesheet (44) to support at least a portion of the first filter portion in a second plenum (40) and to permit fluid communication between the first filter portion and a first plenum (42). A tubular member (104) is fixed to and extends from the first attachment (100). A pleated filter element (120) is disposed adjacent to the tubular member (104) for support. A second attachment (140) is fixed to the tubular member (104) at a second end of the first filter portion (80) and defines an opening through which fluid may flow. The tubular member (104) is fixed to the first and second attachments (100, 140) with sufficient strength to support the weight of at least one other filter portion. A second filter portion (82) includes a third attachment (180) at a first end and defines an opening through which fluid may flow. A tubular member (186) is fixed to and extends from the third attachment (180). A pleated filter element (188) is disposed adjacent to the tubular member (186) for support. A plate (190) closes a second end of the second filter portion (82). A connection device (510, 522) sealingly connects the second attachment (140) of the first filter portion (80) with the third attachment (180) of the second filter portion (82) and permits fluid communication between the first and second filter portions. The connection device (510,522) has sufficient strength to support the weight of filter portions located on the side of the clamping mechanism opposite the first attachment (100) of the first filter portion (80).

    • A combustion driven, portable, HVAC duct cleaning system is provided wherein the components of the system are quickly and easily attachable and detachable and are mounted on cart means to allow for mobility of the system. The system includes ducting for attaching the system to ductwork to be cleaned, a primary filter for filtering large debris, a combustion driven blower for creating an airflow, and a secondary filter for final filtering of the air prior to release into the atmosphere. The primary filter includes a breach door for opening the filter to remove filtered material therefrom. The breach door may include a transparent panel for permitting one to view the interior thereof. Preferably, the primary filter includes a wire mesh cone, the point of which extends into the air flow to provide for the filtering of large objects. The blower is preferably a tube axial blower driven by means of a belt interconnected with a combustion engine for driving the impeller within the blower to create an airflow. Thereafter, the airflow can be exhausted into a filter such as an inflatable sleeve filter or a HEPA filter such as a HEPA trailer. In an alternate embodiment, the combustion driven blower may include twin impellers driven by separate combustion engines to increase the resistance to static pressure as would be measured by water column fit. The twin impellers are preferably counter rotational to straighten airflow through the blower and to boost resistance static pressure as would also be measured by water column lift.

    • A composite filter for removing particulates entrained in a gas has stack of at least two non-pre-bonded tiers of filter material which are bonded together to form a unitary stratified structure.     • A bag for containing nuclear waste material has a venting arrangement having of a plurality of vent holes through the wall of the bag. Each vent hole includes a filter arrangement in which there is a first film mounted on the inside of the bag in alignment with the vent hole and a second film mounted on the outside of the bag aligned with both the vent hole and the first film to define a chamber between the first and second films, the chamber including the vent hole. A HEPA filter media is disposed in the chamber, so that fluid in the chamber passing through apertures in the first and second films also passes through the filter media. A preferred use of the present invention is to vent explosive gasses, such as hydrogen, from bags containing waste material such as nuclear waste material.

    • A method for clearing natural gas service lines includes providing an independently operable vacuum clearing unit having a frame supporting a centrifugal blower, an internal combustion engine for operating the blower and a bag separator connected to an air intake on the blower. The blower is exhausted above the truck through an absolute (HEPA) filter. A drum top separator selectively mounted on the open upper end of one of a plurality of waste barrels releasably secured in fixed position on the truck is connected between the vacuum clearing unit and an inlet port accessible externally of the truck. The inlet port is connected by an elongated flexible service hose and a service hose adapter to a gas service line to be cleared. The vacuum clearing unit is then operated, thereby drawing any debris present in the gas line through the unit and into one of the plurality of waste barrels.

    • A combustion system for reducing an amount of air polluting substances in a combustion exhaust gas produced in a combustion furnace comprises a combustion furnace configured to produce a combustion exhaust gas upon combustion of a combustible material, wherein the combustion exhaust gas contains an amount of air polluting substances; an analyzer suitable for analyzing the combustion exhaust gas and producing an analytical signal; a conduit suitable for conducting the combustion exhaust gas from the outlet opening to the analyzer, wherein the conduit is located adjacent the outlet opening of the combustion furnace; a controller suitable for processing the analytical signal produced by the analyzer and outputting a first control signal and a second control signal, based on the analytical signal; a neutralizer supplier suitable for supplying the combustion furnace with an amount of neutralizers to reduce the amount of air polluting substances in the combustion exhaust gas, wherein the amount of neutralizers supplied to the combustion furnace is based on the first control signal outputted by the controller; and an operating condition readjuster suitable for readjusting at least one operating condition of the combustion furnace selected from the group consisting of (1) a temperature of the combustion furnace, (2) a time for combusting the combustible material, and (3) an air flow in the combustible furnace, to reduce the amount of air polluting substances in the combustion exhaust gas, wherein the at least one operating condition is readjusted based on the second control signal outputted by the controller.
