As one example, a ventilation system is disclosed that includes a computer readable medium including instructions executable by a processor to receive a measured pressure value and a net flow value. A patient effort value is calculated based on a relationship between patient effort, the measured pressure value and the net flow value. The instructions are further executable to calculate a gas delivery metric based on the computed patient effort to obtain a predetermined patient effort. Gas is then caused to be delivered consistent with the gas delivery metric.

摘要： Patient breathing apparatus comprises a hood having a front single-layer, transparent sheet and a rear two-layer section. An inflatable cuff extends around the lower end of the hood and is connected to a recirculating heliox gas supply unit. The cuff has perforations in its upper surface around the front part of the hood so that the gas supplied to inflate the cuff flows into the inside of the hood to provide at least a part of the breathing gas. The inner layer of the rear section is permeable so that the gas can flow from the inside of the hood into a space between the two layers and there to a gas outlet. A hose connects the gas outlet to an inlet of the gas supply for recirculation.

摘要： The present invention provides a method and apparatus for controlling a patient's body temperature and in particular for inducing therapeutic hypothermia. Various embodiments of the system are described. The system includes: a source of breathing gas, which may be in the form of a compressed breathing gas mixture; a heat exchanger or other heating and/or cooling device; and a breathing interface, such as a breathing mask or tracheal tube. Optionally, the system may include additional features, such as a mechanical respirator, a nebulizer for introducing medication into the breathing gas, a body temperature probe and a feedback controller. The system can use air or a specialized breathing gas mixture, such as He/O2 or SF6/O2 to increase the heat transfer rate. In addition, the system may include an ice particle generator for introducing fine ice particles into the flow of breathing gas to further increase the heat transfer rate.

The disclosed method includes preparing a portable medical gas system, the portable medical gas system including a cylinder adapted to be filled with medical gas and a gas dispensing valve. The portable medical gas system is place in a specialized container having a configuration adapted to hold the portable medical gas system only when the cylinder of portable medical gas system is unused state or empty state. The portable medical gas system is delivered to the customer, and returned as an empty cylinder via commercial carrier. Upon receipt of the empty or spent portable medical gas system, another portable medical gas system filled with medical gas is sent to the customer. In one embodiment, the portable medical gas system includes a single-use flow control valve which ensures the cylinder is empty after its initial use.
