    • An adjustable immobilizing joint brace has a pair of opposed, spaced apart first supports for supporting and immobilizing a joint. Each first support has a pair of first joint holes proximate a first end. One of the holes of the pair of first joint holes is spaced further from the first end of the first support than the other hole. A pair of opposed, spaced apart second supports has two opposed sides. Each second support has a pair of second joint holes proximate a joint end. The pair of second joint holes can be aligned with and attached to the pair of first joint holes on either side of the first support to form different angles of attachment between the first supports and the second supports depending on the orientation of the first supports relative to the orientation of the second supports.

    • An array of mechanical force reduction assemblies sized and configured to independently mechanically manipulate a fractured bone region. Each assembly functions independently of the other assemblies, to apply and maintain one of the prescribed mechanical reduction forces to the fracture, to thereby mechanically reduce the fracture in a desired way. A carrier coupled to the assembly accommodates temporary attachment of an orthotic brace, residing thereon, partially or fully assembled in a region of the bone fracture. A linkage mechanism accommodates the rotational articulation of the brace in response to the application of one or more mechanical force vectors, to move the bone fracture into a desired anatomic orientation. A locking mechanism maintains the orientation of the brace to maintain the desired anatomic orientation. After release from the carrier, the brace serves in an ambulatory fashion to maintain the desired anatomic orientation after reduction and as healing occurs.

    • Devices and methods are disclosed for achieving control and stabilization of bone fractures in mammals, most specifically humans. Stabilization and traction is often required to support fractured bones of the arms or legs. The devices and methods disclosed herein are especially useful in the emergency or military setting. The devices utilize a collapsible, inflatable member that is expanded and locked into position. The frame or inflatable member is fabricated primarily from polymeric materials with low radiodensity. The limb contact regions are adjustable to fit a wide variety of limb sizes and fracture locations. The traction applied by the splint is adjustable, controllable and measurable. The traction splint is compact and will fit in a compartment of most emergency rescue vehicles, thus making it more available for use than standard traction splints used today. The traction splint is either a separate device or integrated into a backboard.

    • A splint is provided having a framesheet with a pocket to receive a rigid tube. The framesheet is secured about the injured limb by a plurality of dynamic closure straps. An optional traction bar having a cantilever arm and adjustable link is inserted on the end of the collapsible rigid tube, and connected to a harness that applies traction to the limb. The countertraction force is dissipated throughout the entire framesheet, eliminating externally applied pressure points against contiguous anatomy.

    • A splint for orthopedics with a mid-layer material made from a stretchable woven fabric knitted with a double raschel warp knitting machine and impregnated with a water-curable resin; and top and bottom surface layers consisting of a non-woven fabric stretchable in both horizontal and vertical directions and a barrier layer against the water-curable resin. The stretchable woven fabric is knitted with a double raschel warp knitting machine, which comprises six symmetrically arranged warpers beams, wherein the outer beams hold coarse polyester yarns; the inner beams hold fine polyester yarns, and the central beams hold rubber threads. The barrier layer includes a paper material susceptible to tearing or a synthetic resin film susceptible to stretching while applying the splint. In another embodiment, as the top and bottom surface layers, a paper material susceptible to tearing or a synthetic resin film susceptible to stretching while applying the splint may be used.

    • An orthosis comprising a dynamic, flexible, elastic stiffener that is configured to extend across a joint. The stiffener is configured to extend across a joint in a first configuration, wherein the stiffener is preferably substantially planar, and a second configuration when a patient's muscle is under contraction such that the stiffener allows some joint movement but resists flexion of the joint to impede joint movement. The stiffener rebounds to its first configuration after the muscle contraction has terminated. The orthosis may be used to impede the movement of any joint, including a wrist joint and finger joints, an elbow joint, a knee joint, and an ankle joint and toe joints. Preferably, the flexible stiffener is made from a heat treated and tempered spring steel so that is has desirable dynamic and elastic properties.
