    • A method of transmitting signals in a communication system over at least two time periods including generating a base signal comprising of at least two samples in each time period, selecting a scrambling sequence of length equal to or greater than the number of time periods, scaling all samples in said signal in a time period with one element of said scrambling sequence and transmitting the scaled signal in said time period. Different elements of the scrambling sequence are used to scale the base signal in different time periods. The signal in each time period is obtained by scaling a base signal. The scrambling sequence is preferably a pseudo-random sequence. The step of scaling all samples in said signal in a time period consists of multiplying all samples of said signal with an element of said scrambling sequence.

    • A transmission of information within a wireless cellular network may include a first and second group of samples. A first group of samples is created comprising at least a first and a last subgroup, wherein the last subgroup is same as the first subgroup. A second group of samples created. A transformed set of samples produced by jointly transforming the created first and second group with a discrete Fourier transform (DFT). The transformed set of samples is expanded to produce an expanded set, and the expanded set is transformed with an inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) to produce an OFDM symbol with a fractional payload. The first group of samples is a reference signal (RS), which is known to the receiver before the transmission occurs, while the second group of samples is information data.

    • A method of mapping data in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The method includes forming a first frame (504) having plural positions at a first transmitter (eNB 1, 200). The first frame has a first plurality of reference signals (500). A second frame (508) has plural positions corresponding to the plural positions of the first frame and is formed at a second transmitter (eNB 2, 450) that is remote from the first transmitter. The second frame has a second plurality of reference signals (506). A plurality of data signals (S1, S2) is inserted into the first frame at positions that are not occupied by either the first or second plurality of reference signals. The plurality of data signals (S1, S2) is inserted into the second frame at positions that are not occupied by either the first or second plurality of reference signals. The first and second frames are transmitted to a remote receiver (UE 1, 106).

    • Uplink power control in a wireless cellular system is determined in a closed loop manner. Signal strength from a user equipment (UE) is measured at both the base station serving the UE and at neighboring base stations that are not serving the UE. A local power control suggestion is computed using the signal strength measurement at the serving base station. External power control suggestions are also computed using the signal strength measurements at the non-serving base stations. The external power control suggestions for a UE is communicated through inter-base station networks to the UE's serving base station, where the local power control suggestion and the external power control suggestions are combined and a power control command is selected based on the combination. The selected power control command is then transmitted to the UE.
