    • A printing machine includes two printing units, each comprising a web feed section, a web printing section connected to the web feed section and a web treating section connected to the web printing section, in which a single-side surface of a continuous web is printed at each of the web printing sections. The printing machine also includes a turn/transfer section at which two the printing units are operatively connected and the continuous web printed by one of the two web printing sections is transferred to the other one thereof through turning and transferring treatment of the continuous web. The printing machine is capable of carrying out double-side printing and single side printing and improving printing efficiency with a relatively small location space or site.

    • A method of makeready for a web printing press of the type wherein a web of paper or the like is fed through a print station and a perforating or like processing station driven by first and second drive shaft sections, respectively, which are normally held interconnected via a clutch for joint rotation and which are declutched to allow the print station to operate independently of the processing station. For reconnecting the two drive shaft sections in phase, the method comprises counting the number of revolutions of the first drive shaft section after the same has been declutched from the second drive shaft section, as by a CPU connected to receive electric pulses representative of the revolutions of the first drive shaft section. Upon reception of a clutch engage command from a manually actuable control panel, the CPU computes the additional number of revolutions required for the first drive shaft section before being reconnected in phase to the second drive shaft section. The CPU puts out a signal for causing the reengagement of the clutch when the first drive shaft section completes the above computed additional number of revolutions.

    • An arm for guiding paper fed along a paper feed path is swingably supported at its base end portion on one side of the winding core. The arm is provided with a free roll, on which the paper is guided to pass onto the winding core. At its free end portion, the arm has a roller rotatably mounted thereon which constitutes a body of rotation contacting with the paper roll so that with the winding core rotated and with the roller pressed against the paper roll the paper may be wound up into the paper roll on the rotating winding core without the occurrence of a paper winding wrinkle, whereby with a distance held constant at all times between the feed roll and the roller along a paper winding path, paper winding without such wrinkling can be achieved to yield a paper roll that is large in its maximum diameter.

    • Images, one per page, are printed by a digital printer consecutively on a web of paper fed to travel forward. A timing mark is printed for each image. In case printing is temporarily halted, the web of paper is first fed backward, and then it is fed forward again. The number of timing marks in each of the backward feed and forward feed of the web of paper are counted. When the number of counts of the timing marks counted in the forward feed coincides with the number of counts of the timing marks counted earlier in the backward feed, printing of consecutive images is reinitiated from a position immediately following an image last printed before printing was temporarily halted.
