摘要： A recording medium has first and second areas on which first and second information signals are recorded respectively. The first information signal has a size Ya. The second information signal has a size Yb. A head operates for reproducing the first and second information signals from the first and second areas of the recording medium and transmitting the reproduced first and second information signals on a time sharing basis and at a predetermined constant transfer rate Rp while moving between the first and second areas of the recording medium. A buffer memory operates for receiving the first and second information signals from the head at the predetermined constant transfer rate Rp, for temporarily storing the first and second information signals, and for outputting the first and second information signals at first and second transfer rates Ra and Rb respectively. The first and second transfer rates Ra and Rb are lower than the predetermined constant transfer rate Rp. 摘要： Crosstalk between tracks, land prepit leakage, and effects of recording power modulation can cause the wobble signal period to change irregularly, thereby producing jitter in the recording clock which is derived by frequency multiplying the wobble signal. This problem is resolved by a recording clock generating circuit having an arrangement to average the wobble signal period, a timer for generating a rectangular wave with substantially the same period as the average period, and a frequency multiplying PLL for multiplying the timer output. The period averaging arrangement in particular determines the approximate average period at every wobble period and reflects the phase difference between the wobble signal and the timer in the timer setting so as to improve recording clock stability.

摘要： An apparatus for recording and reproducing an information signal on and from an optical disc includes a memory. The information signal is written into the memory. The information signal is read out from the memory. An optical head generates a laser beam in response to the readout information signal, and applies the laser beam to the optical disc to record the readout information signal on the optical disc. A test signal is recorded on a position of the optical disc near a recording position thereof via the optical head during the writing of the information signal into the memory. The test signal is reproduced from the optical disc. The reproduced test signal is evaluated to generate an evaluation result. An intensity of the laser beam is optimized in response to the evaluation result.

摘要： Playback signal amplitude drops and continuity of the signal track amplitude is lost at the beginning the data recording area when data is incrementally written to optical discs such as DVD-R or DVD-RW media. Feed-forward control quickly settles semiconductor laser recording power to the target power level immediately after an incremental recording starts. While recording continues, feedback control maintains laser power at a desired recording power level even when the required current supply varies due to the temperature characteristics of the semiconductor laser when recording lasts for an extended period of time. A semiconductor laser control method and semiconductor laser control device thereby maintain laser power at a stable target recording power level quickly and for as long as recording continues.

摘要： A drive system for an information recording/reproducing apparatus having a recording head to record and reproduce information on and from an information recording disc, the drive system being equipped with a spindle motor for rotating the information recording disc and a voice coil motor for moving the recording head to a target track of said recording disc. These motors are arranged to be driven through motor drivers. Also included in the system is a power supply monitoring device for monitoring a power supply voltage coupled to the spindle motor driver and the voice coil motor driver to output a signal corresponding to the monitored power supply voltage. This output signal of the monitoring device is supplied to a control section which controls voltages of the spindle motor driver and the voice coil motor driver in accordance with the output signal of the monitoring device. This arrangement allows the drive system to be operated with a relatively low voltage.

A test signal can be recorded on and reproduced from the optical recording test areas to decide optimum power values of the laser beam for signal recording. The test areas are out of overlap as viewed in a direction of propagation of the laser beam.
