摘要： A passive dithering display system includes an optical display including a plurality of pixels with optical dead space between the pixels for producing an image, and a birefringent material for shifting one polarization component of the image relative to a second polarization component of the image such that the shifted polarization component lies in the dead space. Thus, the system of the invention can change the location of an optical signal, and the change can be used to improve resolution of a display, to reduce fixed pattern noise of a display, to facilitate locating and hiding of circuitry, to facilitate overlapping of tiles or pixels, etc.

摘要： The contrast of a luminescent image produced by a CRT display device is improved by disposing a variable light transmissivity panel adjacent the CRT faceplate to intercept and attenuate ambient light reflected from the screen of the CRT. Control circuitry is provided to effect a decrease in the transmissivity of the panel in response to increasing ambient light intensity. The circuitry also effects an increase in the electron beam current with increasing ambient light intensity to increase the intensity of the luminescent image produced by the electron beam. When the device is not operating, the panel has a very low transmissivity causing the faceplate to appear dark.

摘要： A color display device particularly adapted for use in flat panel applications provides a bright picture with high saturation and excellent color reproduction. The color display device includes a light shutter mechanism which controls the amount of light passing therethrough. Color filters of different colors are disposed adjacent to the light shutter mechanism and include a plurality of color elements. Each color filter has a peak at the transmittance spectrum thereof. A light source illuminates the light shutter mechanism with the light source having peaks in a luminance spectrum adjusted to correspond to the peaks of the transmittance spectrum of each color filter.

摘要： A night sight provided with an image intensifier may have an externally mounted graticule for aiming. It is known to provide a graticule illumination system for a graticule injected onto the phosphor screen of the intensifier which renders the graticule visible in a color, red for example, which is distinctive from the phosphor color, usually green. The phosphor brightness varies considerably with changes in scene illumination and hitherto it has been found essential to vary the graticule brightness accordingly to maintain graticule visibility without obscuring target details with graticule glare. A graticule in accordance with the invention comprises a light diffusing pattern (13) on one surface of a transparent plate, said surface being effectively in contact with the phosphor screen (11). The graticule is illuminated (19,20) at a predetermined brightness above the screen brightness obtained when the intensifier is used to observe a scene illuminated by overcast starlight but below that of the screen brightness obtained when the intensifier is used to observe a scene illuminated by moonlight. The graticule pattern appears in red when observing very low brightness scenes but appears as a black pattern when observing relatively high brightness scenes.
