摘要： A technique for restoring file systems by applying full and incremental backups together while streaming them from multiple devices provides a faster system restore from a full backup where incremental backups must also be applied. A first storage device streams the full backup while at least one second storage device streams at least one incremental backup. As files are detected in the incremental backup, they are written instead of the corresponding file in the full backup. Incremental backups can be pre-merged to reduce their number to one less than a number of storage devices available to stream the backups, so that the full backup can be streamed along with the pre-merged incremental backup(s) to restore the file system.

摘要： A method and/or computer program product recovers files that are generated by an application running on a client-server system that comprises a back-up client with a client back-up tool and a server with a server back-up tool. Application files are backed up on the server, and then restored to a back-up client based on file usage behavior of the application and their priority, and file stubs are created for remaining files. File usage behavior of the application performing data recovery and regular data processing after said restore process are monitored and analyzed, and files in different types of priority classes are classified based on file usage behavior. Existing file stubs at the back-up client are replaced with corresponding file content from the back-up server during runtime of the application based on predetermined criteria.

In one particular exemplary embodiment, the techniques may be realized as a method for virtualization of file based content comprising creating, using at least one computer processor, a virtual disk containing metadata associated with one or more files of a backup image. The techniques may include receiving an Input/Output (I/O) request associated with a file of the one or more files of the virtual disk, determining whether the Input/Output (I/O) request is directed towards a virtual disk location containing a portion of the metadata of the virtual disk or a virtual disk location indicating file data of the backup image, sending the Input/Output (I/O) request to the backup image to the virtual disk based on the determination.

摘要： Time correction records are created for correcting timestamps of network logs to identify timing of network events in a predetermined time reference frame, the network logs being created by logging devices generating the timestamps in device time reference frames. For each logging device, one or more network events are generated or identified at respective event times in the predetermined time reference frame, each network event having a corresponding event-related network log from the logging device and a respective timestamp in a device time reference frame. For each network event, a respective difference value is calculated as a difference between the event time and a respective timestamp from a network log. For each logging device, a selection function is applied to the difference values to calculate a correction value, and the correction value is stored along with an identifier of the logging device in a time correction record.

摘要： Techniques are described herein which minimize the impact of virtual machine snapshots on the performance of virtual machines and hypervisors. In the context of a volume snapshot which may involve (i) taking virtual machine snapshots of all virtual machines associated with the volume, (ii) taking the volume snapshot, and (iii) removing all the virtual machine snapshots, multiple virtual machine snapshots may be created in parallel. In the process of creating virtual machine snapshots, a storage system may determine which snapshots to create in parallel. The storage system may also prioritize snapshots from certain hypervisors in order to avoid the problem of “starvation”, in which busy hypervisors prevent less busy hypervisors from creating snapshots. The techniques described herein, while mainly described in the context of snapshot creation, are readily applied to snapshot removal.
