摘要： In a diesel engine including a fuel injection valve for injection of fuel into a combustion chamber to produce sprays in the chamber, an axis of the valve is deviated radially outwardly of an axis of a cylinder, so that the valve is positioned close to an inner periphery of the cylinder. Nozzle holes of the valve are grouped into two groups with respect to a line formed by connecting, in plan view, the axis of the valve with the axis of the cylinder. The sprays injected from the nozzle holes advance in a fan-like manner in the plan view and strike against the inner periphery of the cylinder on a side away from the valve.

摘要： In a fuel injection type internal combustion engine including a cylinder body with a cylinder chamber, a cylinder head, a piston adapted to be reciprocated within the cylinder chamber, an injection nozzle having its central axis inclined with respect to the top of the piston and its injection port offset from the center of the cylinder chamber, and a combustion chamber cavity opened in the top of the piston, an auxiliary cavity defined by a notched wall having complicatedly cut surfaces is formed in the opening portion of the combustion chamber cavity. The notched wall is formed in a manner to follow the conical surface of a cone, in response to the piston travel, the cone having as its apex a point located upstream of the injection port, as its center the central axis of the injection nozzle, and as its apex angle the maximum spray diverging angle of the injection nozzle. With this structure, the collision of injected fuel against the combustion chamber cavity wall is prevented while minimizing the reduction in the compression ratio of the engine.

摘要： A reciprocating internal combustion engine has a cylindrical combustion chamber lying substantially entirely within the cylinder head and including a fuel injection nozzle and possibly a glow plug. The top of the cylindrical combustion chamber is defined by the disc of the intake poppet valve and the bottom of the combustion chamber is defined at top dead center by a projection of the piston which is formed in a piston cap that consists of thermally resistant material and within which there is an air-filled void that prevents the heat transfer from the combustion chamber to the main body of the piston. This construction permits high surface temperatures within the combustion chamber without attendant heavy thermal stresses in the body of the piston.

摘要： An insert device includes a body having an upper body portion configured to couple with a cylinder head of an engine cylinder and a lower body portion extending from the upper body portion toward a combustion chamber of the engine cylinder. The body includes an interior surface extending around a central volume positioned to receive liquid fuel from a fuel injector. The body includes gas inlet channels and fuel-and-gas mixture outlet channels. The gas inlet channels direct gas into the central volume where the gas mixes with the liquid fuel to form the fuel-and-gas mixture. The fuel-and-gas mixture outlet channels direct the mixture into the combustion chamber. The interior surface includes concave surface portions between the inlet channels and the outlet channels along a center axis of the body that are shaped to direct the gas into the central volume toward the liquid fuel in the central volume.
