摘要： A disc player comprising a signal pickup unit to read information from a disc on which program information including address information is recorded, the signal pickup unit being movable with respect to the disc, pickup drive means to drive the pickup unit for movement with respect to the disc, and a control circuit including an address memory for storing the newest one of the addresses read from the disc, a counter operative to count addresses at predetermined time intervals for producing a signal representative of an expected address indicative of the position to which the pickup unit is expected to move in the next, the expected address being updated at predetermined time intervals, a detector circuit to produce a signal each time a discrepancy is found to exist between the newest address and the expected address. In response to the signal from the detector circuit, the pickup drive means is actuated to drive the pickup unit for movement to the position dictated by the newest address or the expected address.

摘要： A method of operating a disk player that reproduces information recorded on a disk. Programs on the disk are addressed from a directory in a memory and the programs are sequentially accessed according to the order in the directory. The directory can be filled by inserting random numbers or by scanning through the programs or over the tracks. A table of contents at the beginning of the disk is read if possible. The tracks can be scanned and only tracks having new programs are reproduced. Also a playback position servo operates with a dead-zone in the drive voltage.

摘要： A pulse-width modulation drive circuit for a load such as a motor, particularly, a motor used in a compact disc player or the like, in which losses in diodes used to absorb reverse EMF are substantially eliminated. For this purpose, the pulse widths of pulse signals used to on-off control drive current flow through the load are controlled so as to eliminate the diode losses. The circuits of the various embodiments of the invention are designed so as to be easily implemented in integrated circuit form.

摘要： A system for playing back information recorded on a recording disc includes a first servo control system responsive to a tracking error signal, which adjusts the position of an information reading point of a pickup relative to the recording track on the recording disc, and a second servo control system responsive to a synchronizing signal contained in the playback information signal, which adjusts the speed of rotation of the recording disc. The system is further provided with first detection means responsive to the tracking error signal for detecting a condition where the information reading point has moved across a predetermined number of sections of recording track in a radial direction of the recording disc, and a second detection means responsive to the synchronization signal for detecting a condition where the synchronization signal is not read out up to a predetermined number regularly, and a control means for suspending the servo control operation of at least one of the first and second servo control systems in accordance with output signals of the first and second detection means.

An accumulated total time code is read in the led-in area of the disk, and a predetermined code is detected during this reading operation. If though the predetermined code cannot be detected in reading the accumulated total time code, a frame calculation is carried out to jump the pickup of the disk player across tracks to read another accumulated total time code, whereupon, after the predetermined code has been read, necessary data is read from the lead-in region.

摘要： An automatic loading disc player comprising a detection system for preventing mistaken insertion of a compact disc which is smaller than the conventional disc. The disc player comprises conveying rollers for conveying the disc to a disc playing position and returning the disc to a disc insertion position. The disc player further comprises a first detection means provided near the conveying rollers for detecting the presence or absence of a data recording disc, a second means for detecting when a data recording disc is loaded at the disc playing position, and a control means for controlling the driving of the conveying rollers in the forward or reverse direction, the control means operating to stop the driving of the conveying rollers in the forward direction when, in loading a data recording disc, the detection of the presence of the disc by the first detecting means is interrupted before the second detecting means detects the completion of loading of the disc.

The allowable range of the returning operation is increased with the frequency of the tracking miss. Thus, when the frequency of the tracking miss is high, track misses will be detected with a larger tolerance than when the frequency of the tracking miss is low.
