    • The invention relates to the heat treatment of fine-grained material which is first of all preheated in a multi-stage cyclone preheater, then further heated in a calcination zone, next finally burnt in a kiln and then cooled. Preheated material and tertiary air are delivered to the reaction chamber of the calcination zone in order to maintain therein a reducing atmosphere for reduction of the NO.sub.X content in the kiln exhaust gases. For the purpose of good adjustability of the reaction temperature in the reaction chamber and for the purpose of a space-saving construction, the preheated material from the second-lowest preheating stage as well as tertiary air are introduced at the bottom into the reaction chamber and an adjustable part-quantity of the preheated material from the third-lowest preheating stage is introduced into an upper region of the calcination zone.

    • Crosslinkable polymer compositions are provided which can be in the form of a polymer powder which is redispersible in water or as an aqueous dispersion. The polymer composition is composed of A) a copolymer of one or more comonomers of vinyl esters of straight-chain or branched alkanecarboxylic acids having 1 to 18 C atoms, acrylates or methacrylates of branched or straight-chain alcohols having 1 to 15 C atoms, dienes, olefins, vinylaromatics and vinyl halides, and of from 0.1 to 10% by weight, based on the total weight of the comonomers, of one or more ethylenically unsaturated comonomers containing epoxide groups, and B) one or more non-copolymerizable compounds having at least two epoxide groups. The invention furthermore relates to a process for the preparation of the crosslinkable polymer compositions and their use in chemical products for the construction industry.

    • A process for the production of an aqueous dispersion stabilized by a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol and based on copolymers that comprise at least 60% by weight of monomer units selected from the group consisting of esters of acrylic acid, esters of methacrylic acid, styrene, and substituted styrene and mixtures thereof, consisting essentially of subjecting a stabilized dispersion of a monomer mixture containing at least 60% by weight of monomers selected from the group consisting of esters of acrylic acid, esters of methacrylic acid, styrene, substituted styrene and mixtures thereof, said dispersion being an aqueous dispersion stabilized by a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol, to polymerization at a temperature in excess of 60.degree. C. in the presence of a free-radical-forming catalyst selected from the group consisting of (a) organic catalysts soluble in the monomers and also being at least partially water-soluble, optionally in combination with water-soluble reducing agents and (b) peroxosulfur catalysts, in such a manner that, during the entire duration of the reaction, said monomer mixture is supplied at such a rate by metering in the monomer mixture in the form of a previously obtained emulsion, that the monomer concentration is maintained at less than 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the reaction mixture, and recovering said stabilized dispersion; as well as the aqueous dispersion produced by the process, the use of the aqueous dispersions as a binder in dispersion dyes and adhesives, the said binder having increased resistance against hydrolysis on drying due to the special manufacturing process.

    • A novel process for the preparation of a readily dispersible, pourable dispersion powder comprising emulsion polymerizing in the presence of a free radial initiator a mixture of 1 to 50% by weight of ethylene and 99 to 50% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated comonomer phase comprising at least one member of the group consisting of (a) 60 to 100% by weight of vinyl chloride, (b) 0 to 40% by weight of monoethylically unsaturated, oil-soluble monomers, (c) 0 to 10% by weight of monoethylenically unsaturated water-soluble monomers having functional groups and (d) 0 to 5% by weight of oil-soluble monomers that are monoethylenically unsaturated and have functional groups or are multiple ethylenically unsaturated and optionally a protective colloid and/or emulsifier at an ethylene pressure of 10 to 150 bar to obtain an aqueous dispersion of a vinyl chloride-ethyelene copolymer, optionally adding to the aqueous dispersion (e) 0 to 40% by weight, based on the VCE-polymer, of at least one water-soluble substance having a T.sub.g .gtoreq.60.degree. C., (f) 0 to 1% by weight, based on the VCE-polymer, of an antifoaming agent, and (g) 0 to 30% by weight, based on the total weight of polymer constituents, of a finely divided antiblocking agent and spray drying or freeze drying the aqueous dispersion to obtain the readily redispersible, pourable powder of a vinyl chloride-ethylene copolymer and the powder produced by the said process and improved coatings, paints, glues and adhesives containing the said redispersible powder.
