    • A zero insertion force socket for connecting a CPU to a printed circuit board consists of a dielectric base receiving a number of contacts therein, and a cover movably mounted on the base between a closed position and an open position. At the open position, pins of the CPU extending through the cover into the base are each received in a space defined within an arc section of the corresponding contact. At the closed position, each pin is moved to be clamped between fixed and movable contacting sections of the corresponding contact. The movable contacting section connects with the fixed contacting section via the arc section providing the clamping force. Each fixed contacting section connects with a tail portion located therebelow for being soldered to the printed circuit board.

    • A substantially rectangular socket connector for connecting a CPU to a mother board, comprises a base and cover mounted on the base and movable relative thereto between open and closed positions along a diagonal direction of the connector. The cover defines a number slots extending in a direction parallel to the diagonal direction. The base forms a number of teeth slidably received in the slots. A number of contacts are fixedly received in contact passages defined in the base for engaging with/disengaging from pins of the CPU inserted into the connector in response to a movement of the connector between the closed and open positions. The cover further forms at least a ridge in a corresponding slot to divide the corresponding slot into two recessed regions. The tooth extending into the corresponding slot is received in either of the two recessed regions when the connector is at either of the open and closed positions whereby the connector can be more securely located at these two positions.

    • An LGA type IC assembly is mounted on a PCB by means of a fastening means which sandwiches the LGA assembly and the PCB between two plates. Conductive contacts received in passageways defined through a socket of the assembly each have two engagement portions projecting beyond the outer surfaces of the socket to contact corresponding flat contact pads formed on an IC package and the PCB, a beveled edge on an upper portion of a main body thereof, and a C-shaped resilient beam extending from the main body and forming a slanted portion integrally formed with the upper engagement portion. The IC package delivers a normal force to each contact causing the upper engagement portion thereof to slide across a surface of a corresponding contact pad of the IC package thereby removing oxidation therefrom, while the slanted portion contacts the beveled edge thereby shortening the signal transmission path through each contact. A retaining means formed on the contact secures the contact within the passageway and allows for slight vertical movement thereof, thereby preventing signal loss due to warpage of the PCB.

    • A low profile socket comprises an insulative cover comprising a first rectangular plate from opposite corners of which two first wings extend. An insulative base comprises a second rectangular plate from opposite corners of which two second wings extend. Supporting walls extend downward from opposite sides of each second wings. At least one blind hole is defined from top surface of each first wing down to a portion of each supporting wall of the cover. At least one tapered tab extends from the second wing portion of the base for slidably engaging with the at least one blind hole of the first wing portion of the cover.

    • A socket connector includes a fixed base and a movable cover slidably positioned on the base for moving between a closed position and an open position. A control plate is movably retained between the base and the cover and defines first and second holes, each having an arcuate edge and an opposite straight edge. A bore reinforced by a metal collar is defined in the cover for rotatably receiving a screwdriver. The control plate is manually moved between first and second positions corresponding to the closed and open positions of the cover whereby the first and second holes selectively align with the bore. When closing/opening the cover, the screwdriver is inserted into the first/second hole through the bore with an edge thereof engaging with the bore whereby rotating the screwdriver moves the cover toward the closed/open positions.
