    • A lightweight, free-standing, expandable shelter (10) providing protection against chemical and biological agents and against nuclear fallout. The shelter (10) has a frame comprising a series of U-shaped ribs (12) spaced and held parallel by a series of reinforcing members (16) connecting each adjacent pair of ribs (12) on each side of the shelter (10). A cover (11) made of flexible material which is resistant to chemical and biological agents is attached to the frame. An airtight floor (18) is attached to the cover material (11) so that the shelter (10) can be pressurized to a pressure of about one inch water gauge above ambient pressure, to prevent reverse air flow of contaminated air into the shelter (10). A blower (20) for pressurizing the shelter (10) and a filter (22) capable of filtering out chemical and biological agents are connected to the shelter (10). The shelter (10) incorporates an internal chamber (26) which serves as a protective air lock entrance and purge chamber and contains an indicator (30) showing when the air lock (26) has been purged and it is safe to enter main chamber (28) of the shelter (10). Air lock (26) is pressurized to one-half inch water gauge above ambient pressure to prevent air flow for air lock (26) into main chamber. The main chamber (28) is equipped with a pressure sensing device (52) and indicator lights (54, 56, 58) indicating either high, correct, or low pressure in the shelter (10) and an audible warning device (60) to warn of dangerously low pressure within the shelter (10).

    • A fuel filter with improved means of preventing water and particulate contaminant from passing therethrough including a cannister, a place secured to the cannister open end having a central fluid outlet and fluid inlet openings spaced from the fluid outlet, a rigid tubular fluid pervious member within the cannister having one end in sealed communication with the plate fluid outlet opening, a flexible filter medium surrounding the outer surface of the tubular member through which fuel really passes but which resists the passage of particulate matter and water, a first deformable washer having an opening therethrough secured to the end of the tubular member opposite that atached to the plate, a ball within the cannister and normally in engagement with the first washer, the ball having a diameter slightly greater than the internal diameter of the washer, and an annular seat between the plate fluid outlet opening and the first end of the tubular member, a second deformable washer member supported concentrically of and adjacent to the annular seal, the first washer being deformable to permit the ball to pass through when a predetermined fluid pressure drop develops across the flexible filter media, the ball thereby engaging and passing the second washer to engage the seat to block further fluid flow through the filter, the second washer serving to retain the ball adjacent the seat even in absence of fluid pressure.

    • In separation of a stream of oil, gas and water into the constituents thereof in a horizontal heater-treater vessel having a gas separation chamber and an emulsion treating chamber, the stream is caused to flow downward into the gas separation chamber and through an outer secondary heating zone therein to permit gas to separate for upward flow and to cause heated components of the stream to turn to upward flow and thereafter to flow downward through an inner primary heating zone. Common boundaries of the heating zone are defined by an inverted U-shape shroud in the gas separation chamber. Water flows down to the bottom of the vessel from the stream in both the primary and secondary heating zone. Gas flows upward from both the primary and secondary heating zones and an oil-water emulsion flows from the primary heating zone directly into the emulsion treating chamber.
