    • A composition and method of fabricating pressureless sintered 70 volume % silicon nitride—30 volume % barium aluminum silicate ceramic composites. The composites are made from 70 volume % silicon nitride, containing varying amounts and size distributions of initial &bgr;-silicon nitride, and 30 volume % barium aluminum silicate. The resulting ceramic composites contain microstructures with coarse &bgr;-silicon nitride whiskers, as well as narrow distributions of short &bgr;-silicon nitride whiskers, surrounded by fine barium aluminum silicate grains. The resulting composites exhibit improved fracture toughness and flexural strength.

    • An adjustable handle bar assembly for a physically-guided implement such as a tiller having a handle bar rotatively mounted in a handle bar socket provided by a curvilinear panel web end and curvilinear margins of recesses formed in side flanges of a handle panel. An adjustable connection between the handle bar and the side flanges selectively adjusts the angular disposition of the handle bar in its socket. The rotative axis of the handle bar in the handle bar socket is defined by the curvilinear panel web end that embraces one side of the handle bar and the curvilinear margins of the recesses in the side flanges which embrace the other side of the handle bar. The adjustable connection includes laterally spaced arms secured to the handle bar, a bracket secured to each of the side flanges, and fasteners detachably connecting the spaced arms of the handle bar to the brackets.

    • The body 12 of an air gun accommodates a removable magazine 16 immediately behind the breech 14, for pellets to be loaded one at a time from the magazine into the breech. The magazine comprises a drum 33 which is rotatably mounted within a housing 31 and comprises ten pellet-holding slots 38 around its axis. A torsion spring 42 urges rotation of the drum in indexing steps as controlled by an escapement mechanism comprising a rocking pawl 50. The pawl is displaced against the action of a return spring 58 by a plunger 60 which projects from a cocking arm 22 of a conventional cocking mechanism of the gun; the plunger is arranged to actuate the escapement only towards the end of a cocking stroke of the arm 22. A loading ram/air transfer tube 28 is reciprocated, in effecting the cocking action, to withdraw from one slot 38 in the drum and enter a next slot to load a fresh pellet into the breech.
