    • A method and apparatus for managing a buffer of a Radio Access Station (RAS) in a communication system are provided. An available buffer space determiner sets a threshold for each service class for scheduling packet input/output of the buffer according to priority of a service class, estimates and stores, upon receipt of a packet at the buffer, an available space size of the buffer after the packet reception, compares the estimated available space size of the buffer with a first threshold corresponding to a first service class indicative of a service class of the packet, and schedules packet input/output of the buffer according to the comparison result. A processor module schedules packet input/output of the buffer according to an output of the available buffer space determiner. The present invention can improve quality of services through service differentiation based on priorities of service classes and buffer management based on characteristics of the corresponding service traffics.

    • Disclosed is an apparatus and method for an MBS service in a BWA system. An apparatus of a base station includes a time controller, a CAC processor, and a buffer controller. The time controller manages a broadcast start time and a broadcast end time and generates a broadcast start message at a predetermined time before the actual broadcast start time. Upon receipt of the generated broadcast start message from the time controller, the CAC processor calculates a capacity decrease due to broadcast service and subtracts the capacity decrease from the current available capacity to update the available capacity. Upon receipt of the generated broadcast start message from the time controller, the buffer controller controls the buffer occupation of unicast traffic in order to provide the buffer space required for a broadcast service.

    • An apparatus and method for Connection Admission Control (CAC) in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system are provided. In the method, a QoS class of a call requesting connection admission is detected and an application layer required bandwidth is determined using the QoS parameters of a service flow of the detected QoS class. A required bandwidth weight of the QoS class is determined in consideration of a packet header overhead. Per-slot available bandwidths of a reference QoS class and the QoS class are determined using the determined application layer required bandwidth, and a required bandwidth conversion ratio of a corresponding QoS class is determined using the determined per-slot available bandwidths. An equivalent MAC layer required bandwidth is determined using the determined application layer required bandwidth, the required bandwidth weight, and the required bandwidth conversion ratio.

    • A scheduling apparatus and method for proportional resource allocation among Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) are provided. The method includes, for each MVNO, allocating a dedicated resource of each MVNO to Quality of Service (QoS) traffic in consideration of priorities, for each MVNO, determining a presence or absence of unscheduled QoS traffic, and for MVNOs each of which has the unscheduled QoS traffic, allocating a common resource shared by all MVNOs to the unscheduled QoS traffic in consideration of priorities without distinguishing each MVNO.
