    • The present invention discloses a multiview 3D image display device which decreases the size of system and has a high resolution of images, and which can thus improve the quality of images. The image display system comprises an image display element for alternately displaying respective images corresponding to the respective left and right eyes of one person on the column pixel lines thereon; two illuminating means disposed at the rear of the image display element for providing respective polarized lights onto the image display element, the respective polarized lights having polarizing directions different from each other by 90 degrees; and a polarizing filter disposed between the image display element and the illuminating means for separating the polarized lights from the illuminating means into respective polarized lights corresponding to the respective column pixel lines of the image display element, the respective polarized lights being illuminated onto the respective column pixel lines through the polarizing filter; wherein viewing zones corresponding to the left and right eyes are formed at the front of the image display element by the polarized lights having the different polarizing directions.

    • An apparatus for making a high quality reflection type holographic optical element (HOE) using a single input laser beam, including a reflective mirror, a holographic photoplate having a photo emulsion layer on a surface nearest the reflective mirror, a cassette for retaining the reflective mirror and the holographic photoplate, and a refractive index matching fluid containing a light absorbent dye for absorbing an input laser beam. The cassette is immersed in the fluid so that fluid is retained between the photo emulsion layer of the holographic photoplate and a reflective surface of the reflective mirror. Parasitic interference patterns are suppressed by heating the refractive index matching fluid with the input laser beam, which causes a shift of the phase of the parasitic beams with respect to the phase of the beams responsible for recording the HOE. If the photo emulsion layer of the holographic photoplate consists of a dichromated gelatin (DCG), then a photo sensitizer agent (e.g., ammonium dichromate; DCA) of the DCG is used as a light absorbent dye to be added in the refractive index matching fluid such that the photo sensitizer agent does not drain out of the DCG into the refractive index matching fluid.

    • A multiview three-dimensional image display system comprises an image projection screen, two image generation components, a bifold mirror, an spatial light modulator, and projection optics. Each of the image generation components generates successive finite time sequences of time-multiplexed multiview images and thus form a channel of multiview images. Each of the reflecting surfaces of the bifold mirror reflects a different one of the two channels of multiview images. The spatial light modulator comprises a plurality of strip-like shutters, each of which transmits a different one of the finite time sequences of time-multiplexed multiview images. The projection optics projects the images through the spatial light modulator onto the image projection screen, where the spatial light modulator is imaged to make a single viewing zone.

    • A color holographic head up display which can be mounted on, for example, an airplane or automobile for projecting a color image displayed on a screen. The color holographic head up display in accordance with the present invention comprises an information display comprising a 2-dimensional array of pixels for displaying information to be projected, a relay optical system for relaying an image displayed on the information display, and a holographic combiner having holographic optical elements whose number is the same as the number of the pixels of the information display for delivering the image from the relay optical system to the viewing zone of the human eye, the holographic optical elements being arranged to correspond to the pixels of the information display. According to the present invention, the surrounding scenery and navigation information of a color image are simultaneously projected without noise due to intermodulation, and a high diffraction efficiency can be achieved.
