    • A method for discriminating the operation type of a disk device uses an optical head carrying an objective lens. The gravity doesn't affect the control force of the optical head in the horizontal operation type, reduces the control force in a vertical operation type, and increases the control force in inverse operation type. Control forces based on various operation types forms different motion features of the optical head to discriminate the operation type. Damping characteristic parameters of each operation type of the optical head are previously determined by test first. The Control force is transported to the optical head, and the timer is reset. The displacement of the optical head is continuously detected till reaching a predetermined situation. The time of timer is read to compare with the threshold of each operation type for distinguishing the operation type.

    • A writing method for an optical disk drive includes the following steps. First, a write command and to-be-written data are received from a host. Next, a speed down flag is checked. If the speed down flag is true, a writing speed is decreased; or otherwise the to-be-written data is written into a data area. Next, the written data is read, and accuracy of the written data is verified. If the written data is not accurate, accurate data is re-written into a spare area, and the number of times of re-writing is counted and checked. If the number of times of re-writing is greater than a predetermined threshold value, the speed down flag is changed to true; or otherwise the procedure goes back to the data-writing step to repeat the above-mentioned steps. If the written data is read and verified as accurate, a write-end status is reported back to the host.

    • An apparatus and a method for testing spoke sensor are disclosed. A drive unit is started to rotate a test disc to a predetermined rotation speed. A module test unit is electrically connected to a spoke sensor under test of a spindle motor module. The module test unit is started to drive the spoke sensor to detect the spoke signals of the test disc and record the number of detected spoke signals. Within a test time, a comparison unit is used for comparing the number of spoke signals with a threshold, and only when the detected number is larger than a threshold will the spoke sensor be assembled to the product. Thus, the product quality is assured.

    • A method for calibrating a focus level on a light scribe disc includes driving a pick-up head with a predetermined speed in a predetermined direction to calibrate a focus level for a moving stage, detecting light summed signals along the light path of the moving stage, and finding and recording the maximum light summed signal and corresponding position of the pick-up head as the focus level for the moving stage. When a number of the moving stages is greater than a predetermined value, the focus level of the moving stage serves as the optimum focus level of the light scribe disc. When the number of moving stages is fewer, lowering the speed with a stage reduction and change the direction opposite to the predetermined direction, and proceeding to a next moving stage to calibrate the focus level.
