摘要： A system and method of reducing noise in output image data is provided. Grayscale image data having a plurality of pixels is received and processed. During processing, pixels which may produce noise are identified, and a mask associated with the image data is generated. The mask provides information related to the pixels, such as opaque and transparent regions for overlaying the pixels. The image data and the mask are compressed and stored. The mask assists in preventing the identified pixels from being visible when the image data is output, thereby reducing the noise in the image.

摘要： A method and apparatus for configuring an image path of an image processing apparatus is herein described. The image processing apparatus includes at least an input terminal or scanner for inputting or scanning document into image data and an output terminal or printer for printing documents. The method includes selecting one of a plurality of output modes using a selection device associated with the image processing apparatus. Based on the selected output mode, an image path among a plurality of image processing elements of the apparatus is selected among a plurality of image paths. Each image path corresponds to one of the plurality of output modes. After a document is scanned with the scanner into image data, the image data is processed with the processing elements in the selected image path, and output or printed based on the processed image data.

摘要： A light compression method that error diffuses image data provided with luminance and chrominance channels. During error diffusion, a higher number of bits are allocated to the luminance channel. A decompression method for the image data based on sigma filtering is also provided. By manipulating the bits in the luminance and chrominance color spaces, the image output quality may be increased in reconstructed images.

摘要： Contrast and brightness adjustments can be made to a system tone reproduction curve. These contrast and brightness adjustments can be made, for example, by user, via a user input device, or alternatively, automatically detected, based on an image analysis routine. By determining one or more generic tone reproduction curves, and interpolating these tone reproduction curves with the system tone reproduction curve, a new, adjusted tone reproduction curve is produced. This allows for a determination of the adjusted system tone reproduction curve as opposed to calculating and restoring the families of system tone reproduction curves adjusted for all the possible combinations of contrast and brightness.

摘要： A digital scanner or copier is provided that can dynamically adjust the black point of an image to be scanned based on detected background level of the document. A pre-scan acts on a small scanning window near a leading edge of the document to obtain a histogram of grey-level values. From this, the background level of the document can be obtained to determine a white point of the image. Additionally, a black point of the image is originally set to a default offset value. However, an adjustment factor based on the detected white point is used to adjust the default offset value to a value that increases the dynamic range of the output image, while still maintaining solid black for black areas of the image.

For example, a symbol may be a number, letter, or other character. During the tokenization process, the OCR results are used to select appropriate matching criteria for each symbol. The symbols that are recognized as different characters are not allowed to be clustered into the same group. The symbols with the same OCR results are clustered according to the recognition confidence levels.

摘要： A method of controlling an image forming apparatus in accordance with the invention can include the steps of: providing a system tone reproduction curve; representing a manually adjustable tone reproduction curve; modifying the manually adjustable tone reproduction curve to be consistent with the system tone reproduction curve; and cascading the manually adjustable tone reproduction curve with the system tone reproduction curve to provide a new adjusted tone reproduction curve. The method in accordance with the invention enables a user to achieve enhanced flexibility in determining how to adjust an output image. The method can also determine a new system tone reproduction curve, based upon the current settings of the manually adjustable tone reproduction curve, in real time, which reduces the amount of storage space required.
