    • A telepresence system for providing a first user with a first display of an environment and a second user with a second display of the environment includes a plurality of arrays of cameras. Each camera has an associated view of the environment and an associated camera output representing the associated view, the arrays are situated at varying lengths from the environment and include at least one path for viewing the environment. In one embodiment, the cameras situated around the environment are removed after the cameras in the array are have transmitted the output to an associated storage node. A first user interface device has first user inputs associated with movement along a first path in the environment, and a second user interface device has second user inputs associated with along a second path in the environment. The user interface devices are coupled to at least one processing element that receives and interprets the user inputs. The processing element interprets the first inputs and selects outputs from the storage nodes in the first path, and interprets second inputs and selects outputs from the storage nodes in the second path independently of the first inputs, thereby allowing a first user and a second user to navigate simultaneously and independently through the environment. In another embodiment, a telepresence system includes at mixing techniques, i.e., mosaicing, tweening, etc. for effectuating seamless motion throughout the environment.

    • A system and method for accurately determining Eb/No information for a signal transmitted by a second communications station, via electromagnetic wave signals, to a first communications station. The system involves a noise generating subsystem for generating a known quantity of noise that is applied to the received signal to create a composite signal. Signal attenuators are used to define a known operating point for the composite signal. A receiver at the first communications station monitors the signal and provides a downlink loss representative of rain attenuation affecting the signal. A demodulator generates an Eb/No value of the composite signal which is then output to a computer. The computer extrapolates, from the composite signal and the downlink loss, a highly accurate Eb/No value which is not influenced by atmospheric conditions or by losses introduced by signal components of the system itself.
