    • A comminuting device for breaking-up charge bodies of frangible material to free their value content and to reduce it to a desired size employs an upright enclosure into which charge bodies are fed so as to minimize in-air flow and to provide a steady stream of the bodies into the upper end of a centrally positioned downflow feed duct from which a series of horizontally, radially outwardly extending and vertically spaced-apart discs of a rotating assembly are suspended to define a central chamber selection passageway that is open at its upper end to the lower end of the duct, and at its bottom end through a grating to a motor drive compartment into which a fluid is introduced under positive pressure. The bodies are selectively introduced into vertically spaced and radially extending side chambers defined by the discs on the basis of their respective weights, with the lighter weight and usually smaller bodies being first introduced and those of greater weight being the last, all in a progressive manner as the bodies are fed downwardly from the duct into the passageway. On being introduced into the side chambers the bodies are subjected to implosion and then flung radially outwardly from within the chambers against outwardly offset abutment portions within the central chamber selection passageway portion of the enclosure and moved upwardly as finally broken up particles or particulates along the inside of the enclosure into an upper chamber that is disposed between its outer walls and the feed duct.

    • A mixing device employs a rotating hollow column or pipe that is motor-driven for rotation, is open at both ends to, at its upper or outer end, receive an inflow of a mixing fluid, such a gas or liquid, and its opposite or lower end, to simultaneously receive a co-axial inflow of a fluid-like or flowable charge material that is to be thoroughly and substantially uniformly mixed with the counter in-flowing mixing fluid. A positive in-flow of the flowable material from a container, for example, is effected from the lower end of the device within the column, to combine with the in-flow of the mixing fluid and premix therewith in a swirling movement with respect thereto at an annularly open portion of the column and, as thus premixed, enter one or more annular out-flow chambers defined by spaced-apart disc assemblies which are being rotated to generate centrifugal force to finally complete the mixing of the materials and project them annularly radially outwardly therefrom, as into the container from which the flowable material is being drawn by reason of positive inward or suction pressure generated by a powered rotation of the column and its attached disc assembly or assemblies. Each disc or plate assembly may be shaped to provide a desired type and direction of outflow of the now fully mixed material from the outflow chamber or chambers back into the container from which fluid such as a liquid is being drawn.

    • Contaminated liquid or sludge clarification is accomplished by the use of a basic one or a series of operatively connected and vertically extending units or devices of the invention, each of which employs a hose that is spiraled around a cylindrical container wall whose upper end is open to an overflow weir from which recovery of lower specific gravity clarified liquid is effected and whose lower end is open and connected to a cone or funnel-shaped wall that defines a receiving and delivering chamber for separated-out heavier specific gravity contaminating liquid, sediment, viscous or thickened material. The hose of the basic unit is adapted at its upper end to receive the contaminated liquid, sludge or the like and any suitable chemical flocculant, precipitant, or coagulant, such as a polyelectrolyte, that may be injected or added to the contaminated liquid before it is introduced therein. The hose is adapted to thoroughly mix the heavier specific gravity material content with the coagulant as the liquid charge moves downwardly in a somewhat slowly swirling path therin. A nozzle is connected to the lower end and along the inside of a lower end portion of the cylindrical wall to deliver its contents in a substantially vertically laminated relation within the container above and adjacent to an upper end portion of the cone-shaped wall.

    • The apparatus and its process utilization enables a higher throughput of ore bodies being comminuted, provides a closer or more accurate selection of size of particles or particulates produced, has a low noise level in its operation, and uses its rotor impeller to facilitate the charging-in of ore bodies to be processed, the breaking-up of such bodies, and the delivery of such bodies in the form of sized particles or particulates is introduced by suction peripherally into one of the compartments of a motor-drive impeller and axially into all of the compartments, ore bodies are introduced into all of the compartments and are thrown under centrifugal force from one of the compartments against an anvil. Broken-up bodies of a desired size are fluidized and moved upwardly out of the apparatus while those of a rejected size are returned to the impeller for reprocessing with additional ore bodies being newly introduced therein. The impeller operates in a circular housing that is cushioned and sound-proofed by a suitable resin or plastic backing. The speed of rotation of the motor drive controls the size and size range of the particles or particulates produced. Input of fluidizing air into the apparatus is provided by rotation of the impeller with the entry quantity being valvecontrolled.
