    • PURPOSE: A method of controlling the reproduction speed in an optical disc unit is provided to enhance the convenience of user by reducing the noise and heat production and power consumption. CONSTITUTION: A method of controlling the reproduction speed in an optical disc unit comprises the steps of: detecting the actual transmission rate of data which is read from an optical disc and transmitted to a host(S304), determining the operating mode of the host as either a data copy mode or a content reproduction mode for the optical disc based on the detected actual transmission rate(S305), and controlling the rotation speed of the optical disc by comparing the reference rotation speed corresponding to the determined mode with the current rotation speed of the optical disc(S306,S309), wherein for the state in which the actual transmission rate of the data is divided into a plurality of sections and the reference rotation speed is set for each section, if the host mode is determined to be the content reproduction mode, the reference rotation speed in a section to which the actual transmission rate of the detected data belongs among the sections is compared with the rotation speed of the optical disc.
